Resort changing

I've searched and have not been able to find anything, so I apologize if this is a redundant question.

I've got a reservation already for next September...if I want to upgrade to a different resort, will I be penalized?

I've got room, tickets, dining and paid for the insurance. Will I lose the insurance? I haven't paid anything but the deposit and made the ressie with a TA.
