I’m am the type of Disney planner that plans a year in advance and drives myself crazy with getting everything just how I want it. But yesterday, I got the idea that I might just be able to take my niece to Disney for her birthday with my DD and SIL in February. Flights are still fairly cheap so that was a go and my biggest concern. But then when I went to look for resorts, there was nothing moderate and below left! And I was really just wanting a value since there would only be 4 of us. Of course, her birthday falls on a Friday and I actually think it might be marathon weekend. But for those of you who book last minute, does much ever open up? Would I be better to look within the 30 day window or wait till like 5 days out?

Our next trip is late this month and I'm still poking around at resort availability. At the 30 day mark, many rooms became available and it's still changing every day. I would just keep checking. You could also consider Swan/Dolphin, though you would need to book your own transportation to and from the airport. They're pricing can sometimes be in line with a WDW moderate.

Try looking at Disney Springs hotels. They are much cheaper than Disney hotels and have a lot of the same perks. You would just need to figure out transportation to the parks, their buses aren't frequent. Uber is a good way to get to the parks.

As the previous posters have mentioned the Disney Springs hotels and a great value as well as the Swan/Dolphin hotels. You may also look into Saratoga Springs because even though it's a deluxe resort, it's rates can be less than other deluxe resorts and it's right next to Disney Springs.

Make sure it’s not looking for discounted rooms. Discount rooms at Pop are sold out for the week we are going in Feb but rack rate still available.

How many nights are you hoping to stay? Sometimes with the booking algorithms it won’t show availability for a 3 night stay but if you put in 6 all of a sudden a room is available.

I was able to get a day added on to my Pop reservation on the 12th of Dec. I was looking at 430am the 3rd. Keep trying.

Thank you all for the replys! I’ve been checking daily and starting to see some thing pop up here and there so I’m hopeful!

Don't forget - you can check the ESPN WOS calendar to see what's going on at WOS during that time as well. If there's cheer/dance competitions especially, those big groups can fill up the Values really quickly.

I’m not sure about values but I was checking every day for our last stay for discount availability to pop up for our stay at AKL. A few nights before our stay (after 5 day cancellation window) our exact room became available with the discount and I was able to modify my reservation online! So if you book the dates you need there is definitely a chance of something cheaper becoming available last minute, you just may have to risk that not happening and still paying for a more expensive resort if it doesn’t happen.

So some availability has opened up at All-Star Movies which was the exact resort I was really wanting. BUT only if I book a 5 night stay instead of a 4 night. Can I book it online and then call in and cancel a night or will they cancel the whole reservation?

you can try to cancel the one night by calling CRO after booking for 5 nights. Calling will get you a CM that probably won't be able to help. However, they are able to call guest services and access someone that CAN help. It is just a matter of getting someone willing to go to the extra effort for you.

good luck!
