Resort Availability thread- does it fluctuate a lot?

Hello all. I am a soon-to-be DVC member in a couple of weeks! My purchase includes points that I have to use or lose within a few months so we're planning our first DVC vacation.

I've been studying the Resort Availability thread a bit and had a couple of questions:

1- Does the info on the availability thread get updated if dates were reported 'no availability' and a cancellation occurred in the meantime?

2- I realize the only way to tell for sure is to call MS, but in general, how accurate are the dates on that thread????

I was looking to book a last minute weekend and the resort availability was right on, there was nothing available for both nights, except SSR and that's what we booked.

In general, if you call MS right after someone cancels you could be lucky and snag something that may already have a waiting list. I've only posted on that board when there was nothing available. So, something available now when not available before is not likely to be noted.

That thread is only as good as the people contributing. And the people contributing are only a tiny portion of owners.

I actually used to look at that thread...and then I started making reservations and getting info on what was and was not available...and I never once contributed to the thread. Just seemed like a lot of work to get the post absolutely perfectly formatted...so I never did. And I meant to!

So honestly I wouldn't put much stock in it...

As others have said, the Availabilty subforum is only as reliable as the info submitted. And no, it is notupdated if something opens up, once reported as unavailable it is permanently in the automated database.

It is intended to be a general guideline of what may not be available, rather than an indication of what is available.

Not very accurate at all. Just a hint of what is possible. And it changes by the minute.
