My boyfriend and I decided to go to WDW for 4 nights in August. We were thinking about staying at the Grosvenor because it is inexpensive, but I haven't been hearing great things about it. Now, I'm contemplating staying on-site and splurging a little bit more. I just don't know which moderate to choose. I've stayed at PO Riverside before and liked it. I'd like to try something new, but I have no idea! My boyfriend hates to spend money and I want him to have fun with the hotel that I choose. He has never been to Disney before and doesn't seem too excited. Could everyone please give me some advice? I'd appreciate it so much.

Tough decision, but I liked Coronado Springs because it's also a convention resort and has some additional amenities that other mods don't (hair salon, gym, etc.); the pool has great themeing also.

My other favorite is PO French Quarter. It's the smallest of the mods and easy to get around, plus you have access to it's sister resort, POR.

Good luck with your choice!!!

I would choose to stay onsite. We stayed on hotel plaza blvd in 2000 (courtyard), 2002 & 2003 (hotel royal plaza). After our trip in 2003 we said that it was time to go back on property. It was a convenient location, but there was something missing. We just got back from 3 nights at POR and 6 nights at CSR. It was our best trip ever!! I am so glad that we stayed at a Disney resort. This is just my personal preference...... I would not stay at a value resort. We drove through all of them on our most recent trip and I was not impressed. I told my husband that if I had to stay at a value I would probably go back to hotel plaza blvd. jmho.

Good Luck!

Have to agree with you about the value resorts. They are so lound and I don't necessarily mean in sound. They are really very gaudy! We love POFQ and having just spent 9 nights and CSR it is our second choice. PFR is our third choice with CBR being the last choice of the moderates. Boy do I miss Magic Kingdom Club and those big discounts we were able to get on the Boardwalk Villias.

I've been to Disney about 43 times and trust me, you don't want to stay at the Grosvenor! The Doubletree and the Grosvenor are the only hotels I've stayed in that were not Disney hotels. I stayed there about 10 years ago and was not happy. (this is after I had stayed there when it first opened and wasn't bad at all) Okay, jump forward to last year. I thought it would improve after 10 years. Wrong!
I stayed in the tower and it always, always, always smelled of mildew and Lestoil. The closet doors were off the tracks, the room just wasn't very clean-looking if you know what I mean. I couldn't wait to get out of there.
I'm also not very happy with the bus drivers (not Disney) that service the downtown Disney hotels. ...But that's another story.... Stay onsite. Splurge for a nice room. Try a king room at Port Orleans French Quarter. Try the Dolphin at a discounted rate. Great location. or, try for a standard room at Animal Kingdom Lodge or Wilderness Lodge. The atmosphere there is worth it.
