Does anyone ever put reserved signs on their lounge chairs on the top deck so they're guaranteed a chair?

Oh geesh. That's called being a "chair hog" in cruise board lingo. If you want to reserve a chair, then SIT in it. Nothing is worse than going to the pool and trying to get one seat to sit down and there are rows and rows of blue pool towels and no bodies. :rolleyes1

DCL says no chairs should be reserved, and in fact if no one did this there would be enough to go round for everyone when they are actually using them.

The no reserve policy is imprinted right on the chairs themselves.....we had no problems by the adult pool 2 weeks ago on the Magic.

Thanks. never sailed before and spoke to someone over the weekend who said that most people reserved chairs...
I agree.... I hate when people put towels on the chairs and disappear for hours.
Just wanted to be sure.

Its always ok to ask the question.

Thanks for asking. :thumbsup2 Enjoy your first cruise. Hopefully we'll be able to welcome you to the "addiction" when you come back. :cool1:

You can try. But if I am looking for a chair, your sign will be long gone when you come back. I usually look around to see if someone seems to really belong to a chair and just jumped in the pool or went to get a drink. But if no one comes back after about 15 or so minutes, I am going to assume the chair is open. I think that most people are getting pretty good and knowing when a chair is really occupied or not. That throwing a towel or a shoe on the chair to try to hold it just doesn't work anymore.

Don't be afraid to ask a question. It never hurts to ask. Ok, I guess I should say it rarely hurts to ask! :)

Once I was surrounded by a whole library of paperback books. :rotfl2: Not one person, but the books made it very peaceful. :lmao:

I personally am against reserving chairs but it can go the other way, my son on the last cruise 08/2008, went to the Goofy pool, he put his KTTW card a towel and his shoes on the chair, and then jumped in the pool, he intended to have a quick swim,

I followed him up and was about 10>15 mins behind him, he told me where he put his things, and I went for them to check they were ok.

All had gone, I reported the card lost to guest services, and the rest of my family looked for his stuff,

His shoes were on the floor more near the towel bins than the pool where he had a chair, and I found his card later in another place.

He wasn't too sure exactly what chair he had put them on, but all of those in that location, then had no one on them and just towels

That's pretty weird. I wonder if a CM was cleaning up and picked up the towel without seeing the card. I don't know if I would just lay a card on a towel. I know with kids it has got to be tough keeping all their things together. They normally don't carry a pool bag to put everything in. But you can be rest assured, that I wouldn't move a towel that had a pair of shoes and a KTTW card sitting on it. But if he hid everything under the towel, it could have been a CM trying to clean up. Hard to say what happened here. Glad it all turned out.

Yes it was strange as it was just a short time period, I wouldn't have thought a CM would have done it as it would have gone to guest services and the card and shoes were in different places.

I just wanted to 'balance' the discussion, as There are a 'few' people on the ships who may take the non reserving of chairs a little too far, My son was a little silly but thats his age, quickly put everything down and get in the pool, But it was upsetting someone decided to move his things and it looks like then didn't put them any where safe as such, just maybe on the floor to get kicked about.

Thanks it did turn out ok in the end so wasnt really an issue.

Well, usually DH and I will take turns and go swimming with the kids while the other one of us stays behind to watch our "stuff" and get a snack.

Wouldn't it be easier if DCL just installed cubbies near the pool area where you could leave your stuff while you swam if you didn't plan on lounging, but just needed somewhere to put your towel/shoes/etc?

Seems like an easy solution. I wonder why they don't do it - Room issues? It seems it would be safer having guests leave their items in a cubby rather than on loungers. Just my humble opinion!

I wish people would not 'reserve' the hammocks at CC either. We sat next to an empty hammock for 2 hours last May, someone left their 'towel' on it. I was trying to get my 3 year old to nap so I laid him in the hammock and rocked him. Immediately a woman marched over and told me that was HER hammock and my son needed to get out of it RIGHT NOW! I basically told her (pretty nicely too, surprisingly) that if it was HERS she needed to put her a$$ in it and stay in it.

How sad. Some people are just crazy.

ITA!! We don't usually sit in any chairs very long. All we need is a place to store our things but still have them handy. I thought this at a visit to Great Wolf Lodge too.

Hopefully the new ships have cubbies!!:thumbsup2

On our last cruise there was an older gentleman who camped out on deck ten to reserve like 5 tables for the Pirate Party...he musta been there for an hour before. When my dad went up to look for a place to sit for a minute, this guy jumped all aover him.

My dad just sat down and smiled.....the guys attitude made him just HAVE to. :rotfl2:

I love this story! It reminds me of the guy that held a place in line for Splash Mountain for his entire family. He was on the phone off and on updating his family as to where he was. When he got close to the front he called and told them to come on up. It was pretty funny when people wouldn't let the family cut. He finally had to go back and try to find them. I never saw him after that. He had been in line over 45 minutes. It's one thing when a small child has to use the restroom. But that is about the only reason I would let someone cut infront of me.

That happened to me on the EB Repo also. I had my towel with KTTW case and my pool coverup on a chair while I was in the hot tub with friends. They had towels and stuff on chairs around the same area. When I got out of the pool to leave my things were gone and there was someone else's bag, hats, and gold concierge KTTW cards on the chair. I know that it was the chair because it was inbetween my friends' chairs and their things were still there. I held up the hat just wanting to find where they had moved my things to so that I could go back to the room. The CM made an announcement calling the name on the card to come to the bar. I was beyond ticked at this point. They didn't respond of course due to either not being at the pool or not having the decency to answer. My friends and CMs and I searched the area and I found my things in the dirty towel bin. I thought that was beyond rude of whoever did it. A towel by itself is one thing but someone's KTTW card, shoes, and a coverup pretty much ensures that they are actually at the pool.
