Reserve Rides from Home Coming Soon & Much More

I love the idea of not having to check into your hotel, just go straight to your room and head into the parks. Being able to book your ride will have its advantages, not having to get to HS first thing in the morning to get a fast pass for TSM for example would be great. It could make it a more relaxing hoilday. For people who dont plan ahead though it could be a turn off, but for me, i'm a planner so i'm all for it:goodvibes
I do not have a problem with Disney collecting information from me, if it means in the future they will tailor offers to my specific needs then great!
Walt was always looking far into the future, maybe this is just a continuation of his vision:)

All sounds a bit much, it will mean every minute of the day has to be planned :scared1:

Wow. Now that is taking planning ahead to w whole new level. And how will it work for those that are less informed and just turn up hoping for a ride or two. I can't figure out if this will reduce or increase the standby lines :confused3

Urgh! We don't even plan what parks we are doing day by day so not sure how we would cope with this!

My first thought was is it April Fools Day? :confused3

Oh my, we like to plan what parks we are doing on what day and book our ADRs accordingly but that's as far as we go. I can't imagine taking planning to this degree, to me it would take all the fun out of the holiday.

Just merged the 2 threads on same subject.

Not for me, don't plan to that extreme.:confused3

Fully agree!! I only planned which park we woud go to each day as it was our first year of ADRs!!
:goodvibes

If this came about in the extreme form which is envisioned, it would put an end to our WDW holidays.

This is just an extreme idea that really cant ever come into fruitation.
Can you imagine the scenerio
"mom can we ride that again??"
" Hang on son ill just log in and get us on the next available ride !! "
"All done we can ride that again next monday at 9.02 am!"

Really its crazy.

Disney says guests will be able to reserve ride times from home.

Disney Dining has made getting ADRs for certain restaurants even more tricky than ever. Are we going to reach the point where you won't be able to ride your favourite attraction unless you've booked 180 days in advance?

:sad2: I fear that is exactly what could happen. Having seen how quickly fast passes went at Christmas for TSM, I reckon you would be lucky to ride certain things at all if on-line booking becomes available. And what would happen in bad thunder when rides have to close until storms pass. Would you miss your time slot and be unable to ride :confused3

Seems a lot of extreme reactions to something we know pretty much nothing about yet :)

Reserving from home could be as little as 24 hours for example.

We also have no idea if this is going to tie in to FP - ie replace or just some FP's will be released early.

We have no idea whether this is going to be 100 per attraction per day or 1000.

We don't know if its something that will be an onsite perk, a concierge perk or even in fact, an additional paid for perk similar to what Universal do at their parks.

Bottom line is...we know absolutely nothing about this so it's a bit of a leap to say things like it's the end of your WDW vacations if it happens or that you'll need to book 180 days out.

Disney aren't perfect, but have they ever done anything so radically stupid to alienate 90% of their Guests - new and old? So why are so many people assuming now that they will do something so awful and terrible that we won't want to go when obviously the intent is to make things better? After all the years we've gone to WDW do you really think Disney are so out of touch with what we, the visitor, would like?

Lets just wait for more information before we declare the sky is falling - Faith, Trust and Pixie Dust and all that ;)

I find this a bit concerning as being a DVC member I'm thinking it may only apply to cash bookings, may even only be available at very top resorts and perhaps even for an extra price - who knows. I don't really like the fact that everyone won't be on a level playing field and tbh I've no idea what rides I'll want to ride when before I get there. Personally at the moment I'm thinking it's a bad idea but I guess we'll have to wait to discover the finer details.

Love using fastpasses, but as a 'laidback' planner I don't like the sound of this at all. Lets hope that more details are released that mean this isn't as bad as it seems, but even though I 'plan' which days to visit what park, I don't wish to feel like a second-class park guest because I haven't paid the extra $ or 'booked in advance' every single detail of my day.

:rotfl2: All I could think was that they can't even get the kinks ironed out of their ADR and online check in system. Shouldn't they fix those things first?

They recently rolled out a new computer system at WDW onsite and for a couple of months guests' dining credits and park tickets weren't loading onto their KTTW cards, causing untold inconvenience. For goodness sake!

As those resorts have grown bigger over the years, they have also become more complex to navigate and more crowded, threatening to undermine Disney's historically high guest-satisfaction ratings and to deter repeat visits.

As for the above statement, the problems in this regard began with staff layoffs. There is a limit as to how far you can go to replace the human element, particularly when it comes to customer service and personal attention.

I'm probably in a minority (of one! :rotfl2:), but I can see that this could work. As a previous poster said, would Disney really introduce something that would alienate the majority of their guests?

1. It could certainly be used as a perk to encourage people to stay on-site. Think how many love the Universal front of line pass. I can't see Disney doing this without including DVC.
2. I'm sure it wouldn't be for 100% of the rides and for 100% of the capacity. They would almost certainly leave a percentage for 'walk ups'.
3. We have Fastpass now, how would this be different? It just allows you to book your Faspasses before you arrive rather than queueing at each attraction.
4. How many times have you been in one of the parks and encountered huge queues and crowds? Wouldn't this allow you to ride all the big name attractions without those huge queues?

I can see that it would take away from the spontaneity of a visit to the parks, but it might not be much different to how it is now. If you want to ride the big attractions without queueing you currently have to walk to the attraction and get a Fastpass. Unless I'm missing something, doesn't this system just do away with that time consuming element?
I guess the devil is in the detail - how this might work will only come out in the fullness of time.
Let's give Disney the benefit of the doubt until then.
