Reserve Now and Hope for Code Later?

We are beginning to plan our second trip to WDW. During our first trip we stayed offsite (convention tagalongs). This time, we want to stay at a WDW resort.

We have chosen the POR because we are a family of 5 and our youngest being only 6 at the time of the trip will be fine on the trundle bed. I do have some questions though.

1. How do I increase my chances to receive my room request? Should I call CRO to make my room only reservation? And, is the waterview worth the extra $160?

2. If I reserve now and a code is offered later, can I use the code on my existing reservation?

Thanks for the help, Jen

1) Make sure to note any requests that you have when you first call CRO. The earlier you are able to check into your resort might give you a slight advantage for getting the room you want but not a big one.

2) Not sure for when you are planning but you can call CRO or book online. I think calling is easier if you think you will be making changes (like adding discounts and such).

3) You can use a code yes and no to an existing reservation. Anytime a code comes out, there are a certain number/type of rooms allocated for each date. So, if you book POR now and book your ressie with no code. Then later, a code comes out and you call back. If there is availablity at the POR with the discount, you can simply modify your exisiting reservation. If there is no discount availability there but there is availability at say Caribbean Beach and you want to make a switch, that might be a possibility.

If your heart is set on staying at POR regardless of codes and discounts, I would book it now. If you are really only willing to stay if at a discounted rate, I would gamble a bit more and just wait and see what becomes available.

DO NOT pay for a Water View at POR. The rooms that they have selected as water views can be VERY ridiculous. If someone spits outside your door, its a water view.

I will book the room at POR, we want to stay there regardless of code. And we will save the cash and stay in the standard room.

Thank you for the help, Jen :)

POR is a wonderful place, you'll love it, but don't spend the extra money on water view, it's not worth it.

Thanks for the recommendation DougK. We will forego the waterview for the standard room and save the money. Jen
