Hi, I am a new member, my wife attempted to make a reservation at the Wilderness Lodge in Oct. According to the reservation rep, they did not have any 2 bedrooms or studios available for these dates. I went to the Disney web site and called the regular Disney reservation line and they stated they had 2 bedroom and studios available.

I guess my question is why the DVC rep would tell us they did not have these rooms available. Does Disney hold rooms for cash renters?

Does Disney hold rooms for cash renters?

Yes. They have some DVC points that are undeclared (they never sold). They have other points that they have acquired when DVC owners transfer their points to Disney (e.g. for a stay at a non-DVC resort).

It's from different inventory. Disney holds back about 3% of DVC sales and makes them available for regular CRO reservations. That way when units are down for refurbishment it doesn't take away from member inventory as members then use those rooms.

Remember when a resort is sold out, theoretically every unit is then rented for every night of the year. It's all a big balancing act.

Also, when members use their points elsewhere such as for the cruise or the Disney Collection, those rooms that would have been used for points are rented for cash, and the cash is used to pay for the cruise, etc. That's how the exchanges work.
