Yes, it is very possible. For the most part, I believe that walking is unnecessary.

The only time I have read about people using it is around Christmas/NYE time. We booked our trip at 11 months out (summer) without issue. We called at 7 months and traded a few nights from BLT to BCV with no problems.

So far, in 3 trips on my DVC points, I have not used walking and have not needed it.

There should never be any need to walk. Unless you are looking for concierge level at AKV over Christmas.

If you're an owner booking at 11 months, you shouldn't have a problem. For an April reservation, there will not be 300 other BCV owners waiting to call at 9am on the first day they can book.

If we're talking 7 months, then it's difficult to predict. Even walking will not help if BCV owners have reserved all of the rooms before your booking day arrives.

I've had 16+ stays in the 8 years I've owned DVC. I've never walked a reservation. I've never felt that I needed to.

Unless you're trying to book on very short notice, at a peak period (like December), or around a major holiday....or you're trying to book a special room type with very limited numbers, like a BWV grand villa or AKV concierge....it just isn't that hard to get reservations, especially if you're calling at the 11 or 7 month windows.

thanks all
i have never had to walk either but with all the other posts about walking i became concerned

I have never walked a reservation. Too much work. And I have always gotten what I wanted.

We're planners and I'm always able to call at 11 months out.

I got BWV for late October (food & wine) at the 11 month mark of my real check-in date with no problem.

I was afraid that I wouldn't get a standard view 2 bedroom at BWV for a few days before and for the night of NYE. I got the reservation when I called 11 months out from the first night. I was very very happy!:thumbsup2

If that night was available for that sort of reservation, I think it bodes well for not having to walk a reservation.

PS. I was also very concerned about getting a Beach Cottage in June. I didn't have enough points available to begin on a Saturday, and I thought I would be hurt since I was beginning on a Sunday, like so many others. I called 11 months out and got the BC for the 4 nights that we wanted!!!!! My family was thrilled, and so am I. One day, I'm going to have to "settle" for a 2 bedroomm the BC's points have been allocated in a way that hurts me, but for this one summer, I'm happy to get it again!!!! I was able to use other points at 7 months out to get OVIR's for friends.
