Reservations still allowed if not on dining plan?

Ok, there is SO MUCH to read about the dining plan and how it works etc. I'm still trying to figure it out. I did want to know can you make a reservation like at Chef Mickey's without buying a dining plan?

Yes You can do that.I don't have a dining plan and I made a ressie in CRT.But CRT charges you at the time of reservation itself...I'm not sure about Chef Mickey's though.

Yes, you can make a ressie at CM without the dining plan and you will not have to pay at the time of booking. You just pay when you are there. CRT is a signature restaurant and they require you to guarantee your ressie with a credit card in case you don't show up.

I made all of my ADRs for January before the dining plan was even out, so it wasn't even an option to have. If you do make an ADR for a restaurant like CRT that requires prepayment and then you decide to go with the dining plan, just call Disney Dining back and let them know. They'll credit your card and put in a note about the dining plan.

Anyone can make a reservation for a WDW restaurant - dining plan or no dining plan, onsite or offsite, tourist or local.

To clear up the CRT thing, they require prepayment in full at the time of booking. They are the only signature restaurant that does this, and the only other meals you need to do that for are dinner shows. If you are on the dining plan at the time you book, or you later switch to the dining plan and have them refund your payment, you must leave a credit card number to guarantee your reservation. They will charge if you don't cancel or you don't show up.

Chef Mickey's has no such requirements.
