Reservations on Cash

If I were to call MS and try to reserve on cash, would they charge my CC right away? Or wait until the day of the reservation? I know to book through CRO you need to put a one night deposit down, but I'm only staying one night, and last time I tried to get a refund from a deposit it took 2 months!
