Reservations for restaurants

I’m going in August for the first time since having kids with my baby and toddler. I feel very out of the loop on all the changes since I haven’t been since 2019 and I used to go frequently.

Do I need to make reservations for restaurants? Mainly at city walk and the hotels. And if I do where would I make those reservations? I’m pretty used to having to do that for Disney but wasn’t sure about universal.

Also anything we should look into specifically that a toddler would enjoy?

Yes! I would make reservations. It gets busy! Right on the Universal app or website, you click on the restaurant and there should be a link to make reservations. We go in October during HHN and I always make reservations because how busy it gets. The one night I didn't (November 4th) and we had to wait till 9pm to eat at Hard Rock Cafe. My kiddo is an older teen, so it was fine, but with littles, you don't want to wait until there may be a table open at any of the places. Even at the resorts, I called the concierge and asked them to book the resort restaurants, because, well, why wait? lol

I suspect in Aug you will not need reservations except for the most popular places and right around traditional dinner times / park close times. That said, if there's somewhere in particular you want to eat, I'd go ahead and reserve it because why not. Most places you can make reservations a day or two before, or even day of, for lunch/off times/quiet days.

I would suggest Toothsome for the fun atmosphere - that is one you definitely want a reservation for. The sundaes are better than the shakes & easier to share.

One other question, can we drive and park at the other hotels we aren’t staying at if we eat at one of the restaurants there? We are staying at sapphire falls

Yes, the boats too & possibly more so than the buses since they aren't prone to being packed full. Although I don't think the SF buses probably get busy as much as the non-boat resort buses do.

Are they stroller friendly?
We don't have little ones any more but I know the boats definitley are - I've seen folks just roll them right on - and I want to say folks fold the stollers like at Disney on the buses. Not sure where you're staying but the busses are fantastic! Not at all like at Disney.

ETA: I see you're staying at Sapphire Falls so you'll have boat transportion - so nice! We consider the boats another whole pleasant attraction /experience, LOL!

Sounds good! We are staying at sapphire falls so will have boat access
