I'm in the process of trying to lock in on a DVC resale... If all goes well we should be closed by mid-August. The contract has a August use year.

Now a little background... We booked a reservation @ Carribbean Beach with the 5+2 deal they had going on for mid-October, and after we started running the numbers for that we could make a pretty substantial down payment on a DVC resale...

So back to the present... Once we close would we be able to book a vacation in mid-October using our points?? I am very new to this and I just want to make sure I'm not putting our current vacation in jeopardy (the wife really wants to go down in Oct)...

2nd ?, would we be able to shop around at the other DVC properties or will we be limited to our home resort?

If anyone can help answer 1 or all of these questions I would really appreciate it because we are trying to make this resale happen as fast as possible...

TIA,
Mark

You can call to make a points reservation as soon as your resale closes and you are in the system (that takes about a week).

Since you are less than 7 months from arrival, you can stay at any of the DVC resorts. However, availability may be a problem. If you are willing/able to stay at any of the resorts, you will most likely be able to get something.

Best wishes -

Of course it depends on the resale as to what points you have available.

I'm not sure what you're asking so I will answer this two ways:

If you're asking if you're eligible to book, we need to know if you have points left. You say you have an August use year--have any or all of the points been used for 2004? Have any been borrowed from 2005? As long as you have the points available you'll be able to book.

If you're asking if there will be availability at your home resort or another DVC resort, no one can be sure what will be available when you close. If you get a resale soon, it takes about a month from the date you sign the papers until everything goes through and you can make ressies. That means it will be mid August at the soonest that you can start to reserve with your points. I would say more than likely you'll find something at one of the resorts as long as you're flexible with dates and accomodations. There is a waitlist if nothing is available to your liking.

You can book at your home resort 11 months in advance, at all others 7 months in advance. So since it's October all the resorts are open to you, as long as they have availability.

Hope this helps.:flower1:

man just posted and responses already... This board is GREAT!!! Thanks for the quick responses... To answer some of the questions, the resale will have all 200 points available on August 1 for 2004. Our home resort will be OKW if everything goes through like scheduled... The next big question is what type of passes to get!! :) Are rooms pretty scarce in October?

Thanks again,
Mark

It's one of the toughest times to book at BWV and BCV due to the Food and Wine Fest at Epcot. But you should be able to get something at OKW or SSR.

Regarding park passes, if you will be spending 8 days or more in the parks over the next 365 days (starting with your October trip), then get an Annual Pass. 8 park days is normally the break-even point. With an AP, you don't have to fret about things like dashing into a theme park for a quick meal on your arrival day or picking up one last souvenir before you depart.

There are also some nice discounts that go along with the APs. Check Allearsnet.com for details.

Thanks for those pointers... That breakeven chart was very informative!! :)

We're calling to make our offer today!! I can't wait!
