Reservation Question from a New Member

I want to make a reservation for early December at my home resort BCV. I would like a 2 bedroom. I know I will need to use banked and borrowed points to do this. I haven't closed on my purchase yet.

My question is: do I have to wait until after I close before I can make this reservation? I know I can't bank or borrow until after I close, but am I correct in thinking that as long as I will have the points in December that I can call MS now?

Assuming you are buying your DVC points from Disney, you will be able to make a reservation as soon as they give you your member number. As I recall, that was shortly after I sent the deposit in.

Of course, the reservation is then contingent on finalizing the contract and closing.

But I know I was making a reservation before I closed since I was already within the 11 month booking window for when I wanted to go.

Good luck...sounds like you're about to spoil yourself with many years of great vacations!

If you are buying from Disney, I know you can bank points before your official close. I did that. I banked points prior to even signing anything.

I am not sure if you can borrow points though. I would imagine that you could because as Granny said it is all contingent on finalizing the contract and closing.

Unless something has changed recently, you will not be able to make the reservation you contemplate until after closing. When purchasing through Disney, it allows you to make a reservation as soon as you are approved which is usually a day or two after they get your deposit. However, that reservation can only be made with "current" use year points, meaning ones that will be applicable to the particular use year in which your trip will actually take place. You cannot bank or borrow until closing has occurred(and usually they give a form to fill out with all your other paperwork to have banking occur automatically at time of closing if you desire). As a result, you cannot make a reservation with bank or borrowed points until after you have closed.
