Reservation problems

Don't forget that many of us were also making dining reservations at 3am, without knowing the seasonal menus changes or entertainment schedules. I have to make contingency plans in case the menus really don't work for the multiple dietary restrictions in our party. This will also probably be a one time trip for my family members, so the parade, fireworks and other entertainment is a higher priority than usual for us. It sucks that I had to book more reservations than I normally would, because most of that information isn't available yet.

That's a pretty harsh tone. This is square on Disney, not on people desperately trying to figure out how to make dining reservations in a system that ensures frustration and often failure. I totally understand your poiint, but calling someone selfish for making an ADR the first day because they're not sure they'll get it later? It's set up that way, unfortunately. It was never like this before and people are simply trying their best to figure out how to get a favorite dining venue. The fault lies squarely with the Disney people who set this up, not on those who get up at 3 am to try and score a place to sit down and eat in 60 days. You may really want that reservation in 62 days--maybe it's a celebration or something--but who knows if it'll be there 2 days from now? I don't think it's fair to blame the guests for this situation.
I apologize to the poster that I didn't word my post better. I think the act is selfish, and in retrospect I shouldn't have quoted the post, just made my point. But no it's not ON Disney. Systems can always be abused, individuals can have self control to not do that thing.

I know what you mean, because it shorts everyone if people are making dining reservations they are likely to cancel later or that they make simply because they are available for that day. But usually it isn't a lack of self-control, it's often a matter of necessity. I didn't book BB for the first day of my trip at 3 AM 60 days out because I figured I'd get it on one of the next couple of days. Nope! No BB for me. Do I feel like patting myself on the back for not being selfish and booking the first day just in case? No. I feel angry. The ones abusing the system are the Disney people who made this new dining system that creates panic booking. I'm sure there are those who book multiple times and dates for the same restaurant, but I think most people are simply trying to get the time and place they really want and are afraid of losing out altogether. And, as you've pointed out, this simply makes an already poor system worse. I don't blame people for trying to ensure that they get the venue they really want, but it makes me mad that we've been put in this situation because it's grossly unfair to everyone.

I think the reason many of us are putting this ON Disney is due not only to the current situation of booking dining reservations, but also the general unreliability of QS dining nowadays. Yes, there are many QS places that are available within 10-15 min of when you'd like to order. However, at popular places your order needs to be made first thing in the morning if you'd like to eat at a normal hour on a busy park day. Now, guests that normally eat QS are booking multiple dining reservations just to avoid dealing with the mess that is QS nowadays.

The fact of the matter is: If Disney can't fix their mobile order and dining reservation system, they need to go back to the way things were pre-COVID. It worked perfectly fine then, and the new systems are definitely not making it easier to eat in the parks. I'd say 6 months since reopening is more than enough time to work out the kinks.

I really do hope you're able to find the dining reservations you're hoping to book. None of us should be in this situation struggling to book meals, and I genuinely understand your frustration at the whole thing.

Can you expand on what you mean by having to order first thing in the morning if you want your food ready? The last Disney trip I had was 2018 to Florida, and we used mobile order all the time. I'd offer, walk up 20 minutes later, say I'm here, and then in 10 minutes I'd have food. Can you please provide more detail on how the system is apparently not functioning right now??? Because what you describe IS concerning.

Can someone please tell me what the cancellation window is for Craftsman Bar? I just made a reservation and it said "check e-mail for cancellation window details" (WHY? Why can't they just show them when you book the table?). The e-mail went to my junk folder then, when I tried to move it into my regular in-box, to read it, it disappeared. So, no e-mail and no idea what timeframe I have to cancel it without being charged. Don't even know what the charge would be?

I just looked on my reservation for Craftsman Bar and it says "You must cancel at least one day prior to your reservation to avoid a per person cancellation fee." The fee is $10.

Unless they have special rules it would be the standard cancel at least 24 hours in advance or pay the $10 per person cancellation fee for no show.

I'm probably not the best person to explain the current dining situation since my last trip was over the summer, and a lot has reopened since my last trip. The parks have really been pushing MO since reopening, so there are many more guests using it since you were last at the parks. This thread has a good overview of what it's been like since I was last there and covers the situation over Labor Day weekend.
The food situation at DCA is rough | The DIS Disney Discussion Forums - DISboards.com

The more recent reports over Fall Break/Columbus Day week were spread over many threads, and it seemed the situation hadn't improved much, and in some guest experiences, had actually gotten worse.

I don't want to scare you, since different people have had vastly different experiences, and this is why I say the MO experience is unreliable. If you're flexible and not picky about what you eat, there are still MOs available within reasonable windows on busy days. However, what many have experienced is:
  • Checking the next available MO at a preferred QS, and the soonest available is 45 min-2 hrs later;
  • Finding long lines when they arrive at QS standby walk up lines, since there are less CMs or registers open;
  • Alternatively, finding standby walk up lines faster, while MO guests stand around waiting since the app says their food is not ready yet;
  • Arriving at their MO QS time and after clicking I'm Here, waiting 30+ min. for orders to be ready;
  • Long lines for churro and other snack carts, due to the long lines at QS and lack of reasonable MO window availability;
  • The variability of a QS restaurant being MO Only, walk up only or taking MO and walk ups; and
  • TS no longer taking walk ups since the list can fill up quickly.
The reports for the upcoming Nov 12-14 Veterans Day/Dapper Days weekend should be a more telling example of what the Christmas holidays will be like for QS and MO. That'll be a way for you to see what people with more recent experience are saying and set your expectations accordingly. Who knows, maybe they'll have improved staffing and the overall food situation in the parks by then.

The best advice I could give is know what you want to eat and the approximate time you'd like to have your meals, and place all your MOs in the morning, especially on weekends and holidays. Eating at off hours will help, as well. If there's a TS you'd really like to have, sign up for dining alerts through third-party services or check the app frequently 1-2 days before to pick up cancellations. If you aren't able to secure TS reservations, have a backup plan to be at those locations 5 min. before they open to get on the walk up list, or be nearby if the walk up list is offered in the app.

Best case scenario, the food situation improves at the parks before the holidays and this will all be a distant memory.
