Reservation/points transfer question

Can a reservation be transferred from one member to another....or does it have to be just the points? For example, if one member were to rent points from another member, could the owner of the points get the reservation then transfer the reservation rather than just transferring the points for the renting member to make the reservation? Did that make sense?

I'm considering encouraging my parents to rent points for December....but the dates we need might not be available...or if they are available they may not be available for long. I was thinking that if this were done via a transfer to my DVC account it would offer my parents more security (ie. the member they rent from couldn't just cancel the ressie after getting their money).

Just trying to work this out for them...we really need their babysitting help! They seem willing to just rent a room at the WL, but the rack rate there is steep for them!

You can either transfer the points or have another member make a reservation for you. You can't transfer a reservation.

Don't worry so much about renting points. Rent from someone who has been around here for a while. Read their past posts and make sure you are comofrtable with him/her. I have rented from people, rented to people and have transferred points into my account and have never had a problem.

I think if you got together ahead of time you could each make reservations at the desired resorts for each other. I actually would like to do this in a couple of years. I'd like to swap 5 nights at a beach cotage at Vero for 5 nights at a grand villa a HHI. Do do this I would probably have to make the beach cottage reservation for the other person at the 11 month window at visa versa.

I'm not sure but if you found someone with a ressie and wanted it I think you could just add their name to the reservation, and even remove yours and that person could do the same. Anyone have any experience with this?

I'm not sure I understand your question! If you are a member, you can rent points from another member, which are transferred into your account. Then they are your's to do with as you please. You then make the ressie for your parents, and if they back out, well, you have yourself some extra points! You have rented them, so you put out the cash for them for the year. I have done this lots of times to fill out a ressie, and never had a problem.

But if you are untrusting of your fellow DVC members, and are afraid of being scammed, buy an AP, and rates will be out for the fall soon. Your parents can get those rates for the unit they want. For example, a studio will run about $169 per n ight, a one bedroom will be about $255, and a regular room is about $139 or so. The AP must be in one of their names, though, and the rates are usually good until December 24th. If you are staying 25-31, there are no special rates due to the holiday rush.

Just curious. To get the AP rate, do you actually have to have the AP in hand, or will they let you make the ressies with an AP voucher (knowing that you're going to convert it once you get down there)?

Actually, I just know my parents wouldn't be comfortable with the risks of renting....which was why I was asking. I've rented points before and was fairly comfortable...and certainly would be again, especially renting from those I am familiar with on these boards.

I think they've decided just to get a room at the WL. Right now my mom got a quoted rate from the WDW website of $179 which is actually below rack rate. No one in our family needs an AP....so we'll just hope that some general discounts come out closer to the date of the reservation. As many people do, they'll probably book now at the higher rate and hope for a better one. I know my mom has a quote request into Dreams already as well....

My biggest worry was really getting a room at the VWL on points for our dates (early December...) and we've pretty much reached the conclusion that its will work best for them to stay at the hotel. We don't want to be staying at different properties and my dh and I have been saving up our VWL points especially to stay there...so I'm not willing to just switch us all to OKW or something. Next time perhaps we'll all stay there.

Thanks!
