Rescheduling trip--how to not lose ability to link FP+ to tickets I already bought

We had a trip planned for April. I booked room-only and then later bought tickets which were linked on MDE. Earlier this week I made all my FP+ selections.

Now we are going to have to reschedule for the fall or later. Since I booked room and tickets separately, I will cancel the room and save the tickets (online I guess since I don't have anything physical) for the later trip. Question is, how do I let loose those FP+ while keeping the ability to book FP+ on the same tickets for a later date?

I understand that if you cancel a FP+, you then lose the ability to book another, leaving you only able to pre-book 2 for that day. Knowing this kind of quirk exists in the system makes me worried about what to do in my situation.

Thanks for any help!

Cancel all the FPs in your MDE and it opens back up the ability to schedule FPs for the ticket entitlements you will use on your new trip.

As long as you don't have unnecessary FPs sitting in your account, you have full booking ability for future trips.
