Rescheduling a cruise one week before leaving

That’s the Disney Fantasy docked at Castaway Cay. It’s a huge ship. If the weather is bad then they will skip a port or change the itinerary. This just happened recently where one of DCL had to skip CC because of the weather so they just did a sea day. When there was a major hurricane that damaged some of the islands in the Eastern Caribbean a couple of years ago, they had to switch the eastern Caribbean to western Caribbean itineraries because the hurricane damage to the islands.

Yeah I don't think I could do 6 days at sea, I booked this cruise specifically because it had only one day at sea. I really need to find a good insurance I check this Disney policy but I couldn't find the cancellation covering 75%, is this the right one?

If there is a storm strong enough that the ship changes its itinerary significantly in advance (for example, going to Canada rather than the Caribbean) or changes the number of days of sailing (for example, leaving a day later) Disney Cruise may allow rebooking with no penalty. With a storm that bad, many guests will have difficulty getting to the port anyhow, and DCL would rather get a good count of passengers than potentially leave later to wait for people with delayed or cancelled flights.

These major changes are rare, though. Typically, if a hurricane or major storm is predicted to affect the area of the planned itinerary, the ship will just change direction, visiting different ports in the Caribbean or skipping one or more ports altogether. If a port is missed, the port fees will be refunded and excursions booked through DCL will be refunded or not charged, but weather changes don’t usually lead to any additional compensation.
yeah the dream out of NYC sailing right before ours this past fall was rerouted to Canada instead of bermuda due to hurricane and I believe a couple of bermuda and eastern Caribbean cruises turned into western out of Florida this year.

it happens. you either are or are not ok with the risk. trip insurance to cancel for any reason is expensive.

The insurances offered by DCL does not directly cover CFAR. But if the insurance denies a claim, DCL will then give a 70% credit (with stipulations like how long it’s good). The credit is through DCL not a refund from insurance.

If you already have insurance to cover the full trip, be sure to ask how any additional insurance will work. Likely anything else purchased will be considered “secondary.”

ETA: this is the info about the DCL-offered travel insurance. https://disneycruise.disney.go.com/contracts-terms-safety/vacation-protection-plan/

I just clicked your link as Im always curious about DCL insurance coverage. Years ago I use to buy it
now I purchase elsewhere. The cruise we just book the castmember said it is "really good insurance".

On the link it says written by Arch Company. Never heard of them and could not find one review. I don't
remember it being underwritten by Arch. Are they new?
