I have a friend asking advice on buying into DVC. I know you can get cheaper prices buying resale, but do you lose any privileges that way as opposed to buying through Disney?

Actually, all you are entitled to is booking a DVC resort, either direct or resale purchase.

But currently, direct purchases can use their points for the Disney Collection (including Disney Cruise) and Concierge Collection and resales cannot. Resales and direct can book the World Passport Collection (RCI exchanges). But none of those are really good uses of DVC points. The best use of DVC points is DVC resorts.
