Resale-where to purchase?

I am considering joining DVC. Toured SSR last year and loved it. Started looking into resale and discovered this may be the way to go. I am confused about your 'home' resort. If I can buy cheaper points to Vero Beach, can I only use them there or can they be used elsewhere? I really want something in FLA, but not sure which resort to go with?? Any tips/suggestions/help would be appreciated from all you experts!!

Look at the annual dues for Vero before you decide to purchase there. Vero is a loveley resort, if you plan to vacaton there on a fairly regular basis. If you are planning on using your points primarily for Disney World DVC resorts, I would suggest purchasing at one of those resorts.

Home Resort has some advantages. You can book vacations at your home resort 11 monsths from check-out date, 7 months at other DVC resorts (basically at 7 months points are points), this can be important depending upon the time of year you want to travel.

Another thing to consider is the lenght of the contract. All resorts revert to Disney in January 2042, and your ownership ends, except SSR At SSR the contract is until 2054, giving you 12 extra years to enjoy the magic.

If you are thinking about SSR you should decide before the 15% promotion ends at the end of January. You will need a referal to get the discount. There are plenty of people on this board that will let you use their name a referal since they get a referal fee in most cases. The per point cost is $83.30. Home resort does not matter much if you do not plan your vaction more than 7 months out. You will definitly need the 11 month window to book bizzy times like Christmas. You can only book the 11 months out at your home resort. You also need to factor your yearly dues in the equation since they are the biggest part of the expense. I believe that you can find a table listing dues for each resort and see the yearly increases by doing a search on "dues increase summary".
