I was just told by MS that I will be given a new number is that correct?
That would mean I need to transfer points between both numbers to make reservations?
Well that sucks...

Please tell me that MS is incorrect :sad1:

I just did a resale contract, my first after several direct contracts.

I used the EXACT same names on the paperwork and same UY as my previous contracts and the new contract appeared as a subcontract withing my existing membership. No new member number.

Now, if you are buying a different UY or are titling the new contract differently from your existing ones, then you will receive a new membership number, new cards, etc.

It depends. If the contracts are different use years, then yes you will get a new member number, and you need to transfer points between them. If they are same use year, then all points under same member number, but different contract numbers. At which point you can use points seamlessly between two contracts, but within limitations of home resort.

Nope same UY and everything... same name.
I hope MS won't give me a new number.

If the UY is the same and it's titled exactly the same as your current ownership interest, it can be added to your existing membership.

If the UY is different or it's titled differently, it will be considered a new membership.

Did you give your resale agent you membership number for them to pass along to Member Administration?

If you have same use year and same names on deed as before, call MS again because they can make the contract be part of one you have although they may claim they weren't informed beforehand. If new contract is different use year from one you already have then MS is correct and new contract gets new member number and it is really like you are two separate members as far as using and managing points is concerned. Note the same would result if you bought a different use year directly from Disney so it is not just a resale issue.

Yes I did... that's why I was sure it was going to be the same number.
But then talking to the MS agent worried me.

MS doesn't setup the accounts, Member Administration does. The MS folks probably don't really know what Member Administration can do when it comes to resale purchases.

That's what I asked her if I could be transferred somewhere or someone who would know and she just said I should call my resale company.

Oh well I'm on the phone with MAdm now ... Already 10min on hold.

Member Administration is going to be slammed with the VGF purchases for current members. They are busy getting those entered in to the system so the members can start booking today.

Yeah I figured as much.
Thanks :)

You should have both contracts under the same membership. That is what has been done in the past, when members bought resale contracts that were the same UY as the original contract & titled the same as the original contract.

Unless they have decided it is just one more way to screw with resale buyers. I suppose they could decide to make all resales new memberships. "Oh you want to add on to your existing membership, the only way you can do that is to buy direct..." I don't think it makes sense, as it would just result in more calls to MS to mange the 2 contracts, but you never know.

Actually THAT is what I was afraid of... You just put in down in words... :thumbsup2

I sure hope not.

We closed a few weeks ago and on our second resale contract and all our contracts have the same number as our original direct purchase just with a .001, .002 after it. They were all titled the same with the same UY so I am sure you will be fine.

I hope not too. Probably not, as you would be the first report if it were true.

Did you get through to member administration?

Sent from my iPhone using DISBoards App please excuse any typos and autocorrects!

No I couldn't get through. I was on hold for 15 min twice and the calls were dropped :(

I just sent them an email through the website, hoping to get some answers sooner than later even tho I know they are swamped with GFV.

Is the answer the same if it's a different resort? We bought a Dec UY OKW a few years ago and just bought a Dec UY SSR. Would those be combined into the same contract? Thanks!

Resort doesn't matter as long as the UY is the same and it's titled exactly the same. If Member Administration adds it correctly, it will actually be added as a subcontract (different suffix on the contract number .001, .002, etc).

As long as both contracts are titled the exact same way, typically they will, or least have in the past, be combined under the single membership number.

If you own a contract alone and purchase a second contract with your spouse, that would be a situation with 2 membership numbers as well, as the 2 contracts are not titled the same way.

I have a contract with a February use year. I just bought a resale contract with a March use year. (Both will be titled the same.)

Since they have different use years, does that mean that my new contract will never appear when I log into the member website and see my old contract? If my new contract will get a different member number, does that mean I will have to set up a different account for it on the dvc member website?
