Resale vs New

We are considering DVC membership. We just got back from a stay at OKW using a friends points and really liked it. Better than SSR when we took the DVC tour. DH has found a decent resale opportunity for OKW so I was just wondering if anyone could give me the pros and cons of resale vs buying direct from Disney. I apologize if this has been asked before somewhere.

also, be aware that OKW has an offer to extend for 15 years for $15 a point.

Many have this explanation already scripted......

Advantage to buying resale: Lower initial cost, which is a good one.
Disadvantages:Have to come up with financing, could be a stripped contract meaning there are no points readily available, time to wait for ROFR.

Advantage thru Disney: Financing options offered, may receive previous UY points or the ability to trade them in for a lower up front cost. Not sure of the current promotions. Receive your points immediately for booking.
Disadvantage: Higher initial cost

I am sure more advantages and disadvantages will be posted by other, this is just my 2 cents. We found dealing direct with Disney very easy and fast.

We just bought OKW and Beach Club Villas (BCV) both as resales. Paid $75 a point and seller paid all closing costs for a small OKW contract. The process for both resales we bought was very fast and smooth. I just could not see paying $104 a point for Beach Club Villas and being on a waiting list with Disney to get it, when I could buy resale for $88 a point, no closing costs and no wait list. You can also buy some resales that have extra banked points sometimes. For us the savings was well worth doing resale. We already booked our first BCV trip for early 2008.

We bought resale first. Actually purchased at SSR, but due to a job elimination (announced on the day I returned from vacation), we cancelled. We then had time to look around and found resale. 160 points for 15000+ at SSR - 210 OKW points for 14000? Didn't need any points for the current year as we had already taken our vacation. Very happy with our decision. Bought add on from Disney though because we could not wait for AKV to go resale! Do not plan on buying extra years as we are in our mid 50's.
