I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I can't get the search to work. All of sudden, after thinking you all foolish for the committment to DVC, lol, I am starting to really consider it. It actually might be a decent investment. What years we can't go I can always bank or rent out, right? I just have a hard time justifying the cost of the dues each year; a necessary evil, I know. Now for my question: What benefit is there, if any, of buying from Disney direct as opposed to a Resale, which seems a little cheaper. Am I missing something obvious. I'm not that interested in Saratoga Springs. So does that mean since I'm not interested in Saratoga Springs I would have to do a resale?? Then again, I guess those extra years would be nice for the grandkids. Please help me!!! Is a resale cheaper than a direct???

Resales can and usually do end up being less expensive. In the long run, 38-50 years it's the dues that will cost you to most. I think just about everyone on this board will tell you to "buy where you want to stay most". The 11 month vs. 7 month booking window is getting more important, as most DVCs are sold out, except SSR. If you go to WDW every 2 years and stay on site, then DVC will save you money. There is not any problems with a resale, unlike other timeshares, Disney does NOT treat members that bought resale any different than original buyers.

BUY WHERE YOU WANT TO STAY MOST OFTEN.

Good luck deciding.

We recently purchased direct from Disney, but had originally planned on buying resale. We were interested in buying BWV and disney was only selling BCV. We decided to buy a BWV resale and were saving to pay cash (we could have done a home equity loan, but really didn't want to). While we were saving, I learned that disney had opened some new BWV inventory since they were moving the sales office. I decided it was worth it to pay a little extra, use disney financing, and join sooner rather than later. I'm glad we did. If we'd had the cash as the time, we certainly would have saved some money doing a resale. That said, buying direct from Disney was really easy. I spent about 10 minutes on the phone with my guide and about 15-20 minutes filling out some paper work that came in the mail and that was it. No sweating ROFR, no closing costs, no hassle.
