O.K. I currently have a contract waiting on ROFR, one that I think has a decent chance on being bought back based on previous contracts that have been bought back. But still a chance to pass. After hearing about the new procedure for getting add-ons through DVC, I decided to add my name to the list as an insurance policy. Well, I'm sure you can all see where this is going.... This morning I called to make my 11 month window ressies at VWL, all my points are currently there. Well, after completing that transaction, the CM was confirming my point totals and said I had 150 BWV points!!! I said WHAT!!!! Yep, my add-on at BWV came through this morning, through DVC, my card was charged the $500 this morning! The price different is only about $600 for the resale VS DVC with me renting out the 2004 points. I have until the 13th to get out of my resale contract, since you have 10 days from the day you sign it to get out. I also have 15 days from DVC to sign the contracts, or to get out using their outs. What should I do? The contract through DVC is MUCH better, since it's the same use year as my VWL points, and the other one was another use year. I feel bad getting out of either of the contracts, I didn't think I would be in this position. What would you do? If I decided to wait of ROFR, I'll probably have to give up the DVC contract, since I don't know if I would have heard on ROFR by their deadline. Then, I have to get back on the waitlist or look for another contract which would take weeks, and then wait again on ROFR and probably the new resale wouldn't be significantly cheaper due to having to offer more $$$ per point. So, my question to everyone, What would you do?

Well, you didn't say anything about financing, but my own opinion is to do Disney financing and spend the cash!:p Say, maybe on a second contract?:hyper: Seriously, if you have to make a choice, I would go with DVC because 1--the points are there NOW, and 2--you get the same use year. I have three different contracts with three different use years, and I personally think it's worth a few hundred to get exactly what you want. After all, I presume you will have the contract for another few years, and you will be thanking your lucky stars every time someone like me complains about trying to keep track of points.;)

I agree with Cruella but I feel your pain. I always get myself into predicaments like yours:p

In the end, I think you have to do what's best for you and it sure seems like going through DVC is the better option.

Hey, maybe you should just keep them both! I know - I'm a BIG help!;)

I know, the DVC method would be MUCH easier, and I'm leaning towards that way, but I just feel like banging my head against a wall. I feel bad that I might have to pull out of this resale contract and I don't know how. Maybe that should be a separate post asking for information there. URGH!!! I wish I didn't have to deal with this!!!! And I thought waiting for ROFR was hard!!!! This is MUCH worse!!!!

Lori,

It sounds like you know the best contract for you is the one with the same UY but you are having a hard time because it will affect both your sellers and the resale agent who sold you the contract. I really do believe that with the way BWV resales are selling so quickly, your sellers won't have to wait too long for someone else to come along and I'm sure they are aware of the possibility of a contract falling through. It happens. I'm sure the agents deal with it all the time. All you can do is be respectful, explain your situation and again...do what is right for you.

Good luck!

I just found out today that I passed ROFR at BWV at 73 a point, buyer(me) paying closing and MF's. Maybe that will help you.

I was just wondering how you only get a $600 difference?

I would be getting 2004 points from DVC and none through my resale. At $89 per point through DVC, renting all 2004 points, brings me down to $79 per point. My resale is $75 per point including closing costs, so in reality only a $4 per point difference. On a 150 point contract, that's $600.

I forgot to ask, what use year and how long did you wait to find out?

June use year, less than 10 days of waiting.

Do you like the use year for the resale? If so, you should know if you pass in the next 5-10 days, which would still be in the time frame of 15 days for purchasing from DVC. $600 is $600, plus you wouldn't have to rent.

Sort of. I really wanted a February use year, but the resale is an April use year. And I haven't seen any Feb BWV resales, with the exception of one on Ebay and the seller wasn't interested in ending the auction early. This is just so darn confusing and stressful right now!!!!! I just wish I could figure out what to do!!!

Call the broker you are trying to purchase the resale through. It could be that after you made your offer, others came in. There might already be someone else in line for the resale. This might make your decision easier to go with the points being offered through DVC. The sellers may not be happy with starting the process all over again with someone new but this is a big investment and you really need to follow your head on this one...not your heart. Whatever you decide, those points are going to be snapped up by someone in a hurry. Good luck!

Lori, I agree about going with disney. The points are there for 2004, you are guaranteed the contract.

Also, do not feel bad about canceling out on the resale! That is how I got my resale earlier this year. The first buyer backed out and that is why I got it. I am sure it will get snatched up by someone else and you will be making their day!!

I agree going with Disney is probably the best way, and that's what I want to do. DH though is still pondering it and we'll make a decision tonight and contact the reseller in the morning if we are going to cance. We have until Friday, so that isn't too much.

Lori,

Does Disney offer to rent the points to reduce your cost?
No they don't. I'll have to do that myself in a private transaction.

From one Lori to another:) :

I think that I would buy the points from Disney. You'll have them immediately, with the use year that you want, and no more waiting and worrying about passing ROFR. Plus, if you pass up Disney and go with the resale, your contract might not pass ROFR and then you would have to start all over! Just my 2 cents worth - only you and your family can decide what's best for you. Good luck and pixie dust :wizard: and let us know what you decide!

$500 differential is well worth it to keep the same use year! And maybe if you rent the points out at a higher price, you could narrow that differential down. And the piece of mind in maintaining the same use-year and knowing that you have definately got it is just great. What great news, lori, just spoiled for choice!
