Resale Owners Can’t Borrow Points Online

If you are a resale owner and want to borrow from your next years points, the site just crashes. I had to call member services and they said it’s a known issue for resale contracts. They said anytime I need to borrow I have to call in. It’s VERY inconvenient. They need to fix this especially since its a known issue. Ive had to be on hold for almost an hour whenever I call them. Anyone else having issues with this? Is this a recent issue or its always been like this?
 
It does seem to be owner dependent as I have been able to borrow on both memberships, from resale contracts bought prior to the 50% restriction and after it went into place....which is when this seemed to start for some accounts.

The only thing I can think of is that it happens for those who are brand new to DVC via resale post April?

But, I have also read some with direct points had issues too.
 
I’ve had my membership since January. It wouldnt be as big of an issue if you could use chat or talk to someone quickly before an available room that’s highly sought after books. A value room at AKL opened up but by the time I got connected to someone on the phone, it was booked.

FYI - I just made a reservation that borrowed points using a resale membersbip contract three days ago. This was my most recent contract, just closed in November. So, it's definitely not everyone.

My contract that closed this year works too, Just strange that it is account specific and that some members can borrow online and other can not.

It may be more prevalent for resale points, but obviously not everyone’s because you are also having no issues.
 
I have one resale contract purchase in 2018 that does not give me the error. Another small resale contract in 2019 does cause the error, and my larger resale purchased in 2020 does as well.
 
I'm having an issue as well. I purchased my resale in 2012. Ugh. Will try again tomorrow.
 
Thanks for the thread. This is the exact issue I am having. I am borrowing under the 50% mark and had no problems modifying my reservation, but could not borrow the 10 points I needed for the final day. IMHO, the whole site is a little hinky when it comes to making and modifying reservations. It took me a while to even figure out how to do it and it wasn't even in the FAQs. "Can I bring a firearm to WDW" was though - crazy. Closed today, will call on Monday and sort it out.
 
Resale purchase 12/2020. Made my reservation today and no issues borrowing ~45% of 2022 points.
 
I have tried to borrow point from one account for three days, after having been able to for another reservation earlier in the week. Today a Member Services CM had to get a supervisor to finalize the reservation. My other account has not had thls problem. So it seems to be completely random--the same account can borrow one day and not the next.

Which, to me, is what is strange. I know nothing much about IT, but how does a system have code that can be that random?
 
I just got my resale points, had no issue borrowing for my first reservation....now I cannot borrow. Its incredibly frustrating, I called and got told 'oh well you bought resale points, I'm sure that is the issue.'
 
I was able to borrow from my recent VGF resale points, but not from my SSR resale points from a couple years ago. So, I just booked using my VGF points to get it done.

It's OK though, only took 2.5 hours on the phone to fix it. Thanks guys!

Come to think of it, thats what happened to me. I was able to borrow for my first time trying. After that, it wouldnt let me and the 7 dwarfs site crashing started.
 
I've missed out on available reservations because of this limitation. It is really unfair to resale owners. I get that I cannot book at Riviera, but why can I not book at my home resort on borrowed points within my booking window without calling member services?!?
 
I had this problem previously, but it seems to have been resolved after calling MS. I personally haven't had this issue since but I have also tried to be a little more about borrowing points unless I am absolutely certain of the reservation. Hopefully it's a one and done in that after the issue is resolved, it doesn't happen again! So far, I've been lucky but it is definitely frustrating to have to deal with it in the first place!
 
The issue is accounts and not as simple as CMs say but probably because that’s what seems like is happening.

More people with resale points are having issues. That is true based on reports here.

But it is not a resale points only problem because I can borrow from all the points I own in both memberships and I have both kinds of points.

I am not an IT person but I don’t get how it can work for some and not other contracts, even within the same members accounts.
