Resale Owners Can’t Borrow Points Online

Come to think of it, thats what happened to me. I was able to borrow for my first time trying. After that, it wouldnt let me and the 7 dwarfs site crashing started.
Interesting.

I chatted today and got told there wasn’t anything they could do but if I called they would make the reservation for the night I needed =\

This is a mess. Why do I feel like this is DVC playing around with account permissions and trying to see what they can get away with regarding resale contracts? If they want to make a new rule regarding this, then fine. Communicate that. But I wish they would grandfather in the already purchased resale contracts and make it a new rule starting X date and going forward for new resale purchasers instead of making it so random and arbitrary.

I just want to add that it’s not all resale owners or contracts. So I don’t think it is that. The only thing I can think of is that someone added contracts with some error to some owners accounts that is causing it.

I do not believe it is being done on purpose because I have all types of contracts bought at different times..direct and resale and in two different memberships and so far have had no issues borrowing on any.

It’s got to be some coding issue that was created when they tweaked things to limit borrowing to 50% since it’s not been an issue before. The last time they would have tweaked the booking software would have been when they banned new resale contracts from booking Riviera. I’d guess that whatever they did to limit Riviera booking somehow carried over into borrowing limits in some cases, but I know nothing of IT, although I do know Disney’s IT is, shall we say, not state of the art.

But the resale thing went into effect over a year before this issue. I agree with you in that I don’t get how it can work for some owners who have resale contracts and not others.

There hasn’t seem to be one type of situation that is common enough to figure it out either. Disney IT just doesn’t seem to be able to keep up with the times and it is definitely not a good place for members when the website isn’t working the way it should for some owners and perfectly for other ones.

It happens to me with my resale .00 contract. Made a rewrite in the final hours of my second contract (direct) so that one skipped a number and ends with .02. Direct one is fine.

Not sure if that is the problem. Is it happening only with people with single contracts? Or with multiple contracts? It's definitely an issue with borrowing to the current use year.

My newer resale contract it’s worked a few times online but the rest of the time I did have to call. It sucked.

It really seems account specific. I have two membership, mix of direct and resale and as I shared, it all works.

Thanks! I am trying to hone on what are the specifics about the ones that don’t work. Looking at the mishaps only. Kinda like a square is a rhombus but a rhombus is not necessarily a square.

I also had trouble a few months ago and I requested MS manually moved borrowed points for me that werent showing up properly. I think if I waited it might have done it. Maybe that is it.

This is what is so crazy because it doesn’t seem to be any specific type of points or patterns based on reports.

I just don’t get it because if some accounts work fine, then it should be an easy fix. Personally, just don’t think they have tried.

i made a reservation with borrowed points last week on a resale contract with no problem....However, trying to modify today and I get the dwarves. My guess is the issue is the overall poor performance of the IT, not something nefarious. They really don't have the resources to be that clever.

hit the lottery and got someone on chat....agent could not modify on chat. Said the wait is "only an hour" right now.... I think I know the issue. The existing reservation required borrowing points. We borrowed 9 for the existing reservation but to modify we need 8 more for 17 total (well below the 50% max). on the box where you agree to borrow from 2022, it shows the number of points to borrow at what is half of the contract which is not accurate since we already borrowed 9. So it's a coding issue on the back end for sure that I doubt they will put any time into looking into with the disaster that Grand Californian is right now.

To recap, borrowing once on a resale contract was not an issue here, but modifying in which more points were required to be borrowed crashed the site.

my guess is if you modify and DON'T require any more points, there may not be an issue but I'll wait until I talk to member services before trying that. I think we're going to have to modify again too so just a general waste of time for something that should take 5 minutes max if the website delivered as promised.

I have been trying to modify a reservation throughout the day. I will need to borrow 3 points. Seven dwarves tell me no.
I am trying to modify in such a way that I would add an extra day to our park tickets. That’s about $500. If I don’t modify we will keep our current passes. Disney, I just want to give you money and not have to call ☹️

We were able to update on phone. Issue is with borrowing points again in system. They are “aware of the issue” and are working on it. CM suggested we email management as they really do look at those emails.

So some of my borrowed points were getting stuck that might be part of the issue. MS told me that database moves all the borrowed points back on Thursdays.

Now I can see the points moved back and I bet I can freely reborrow. I also sent an email a few weeks ago which finally got a response on “return borrowing Thursday” so maybe this is part of the mystery.
That’s the first I heard of the Thursday thing. It will all be over next week tho!

I've booked multiple reservations within the last month online borrowing points from resale contracts and have had no problems.

They have been doing the sweep on Thursdays since last year. The borrowing issue is not for everyone. Some owners have always been able to and others have not.
