Resale or Not

We are wanting to add points onto our DVC at SSR. Not sure if I can put prices up or not, but a resale would be about $40 per point cheaper. Should we buy direct or buy a resale? We currently have 200 points and are wanting to add somewhere between 200 and 300 points.

Also, with the deal going on, should be purchase at AKL instead? The rooms are higher in points than SSR and a little nervous about having two home resorts.

Any ideas would be appreciated!
TIA

The most important questions when buying resale are (1) Can I wait 2 or 3 months for my new points, and (2) do the restrictions on trading affect me? In your case, you have 200 points. If they are direct (or resale grandfathered), you already have non-restricted points and I would say (2) is unimportant. I would guess you could save at least $50 per point buying resale.

As far as two home resorts, it's your call. As long as they have the same UY (and owners), they are pretty easy to manage (although it does require a bit more planning). If you wanted to do large point trips at SSR (GVs, or multiple rooms), you might want to keep all your points there. If you plan to use your points at 7 months for other resorts, then multiple resorts would give you an advantage. Remember that with banking and borrowing, you could still have 600 SSR points to use at 11 months.

Great question. You are free to mention prices that you see advertised because you are not making a "points for sale" or "points wanted" post. If cost is your main motivator, you should definitely look at resale. Keep in mind that you will need to find the same use year and title the contracts identically in order to combine both contracts onto one membership number.

I wouldn't be too nervous about having two home resorts as it does have it's advantages (like two 11 month booking windows). That being said, resale on AKL is a much better deal than buying direct, even with the incentive. I would suggest that you do as much reading on here as you can...good luck with your decision!

resale takes longer but is a MUCH better deal.

remember that you cannot combine your SSR and AKV pts prior to the 7 month window...but AKV pts can be used at AKV at 11 months out whether they are banked AKV pts, current AKV pts or borrowed AKV pts.

so you could use your SSR contract to stay at SSR one year and then use your AKV contract to stay at AKV the next year.

but for some, it's just easier to stick with one home resort (and definitely one use year month.)

You should buy where you love to stay, (why would you buy anywhere else)?

If the Disney imposed resale restrictions don't affect you, by resale, (why would you throw money away)?

Good luck, have fun, and let us know what you decide.

Agreed. Especially considering the amount of points you are looking at. It could be a $10-$15k difference!
