Good morning, I am a DVC novice and am writing for some insight on banked points please. My wife and I saw a contract at SSR and the listing stated:
Points available: 170 to use by 4/1/21 (banked from 2019) + 335 points coming April 1, 2021 (165 from 2020 and the 170 for 2021)

Is that even possible to have those points from 2019? Thanks for any assistance!

Appears as if the contract has an April Use Year. An April UY runs 4/1 thorough 3/31 of the following year.
Points banked from 2019 to 2020 would be valid for reservations with a check in date on/after 4/1/2020 and a check out date on/before 4/1/2021.

Right now, the process to purchase resale is finally getting a little more “back to normal” time wise, although some aspects are still taking a tong time. If things continue to speed up, you may start seeing 2 months from offer to points as the norm, but I’d still plan on 3 months. That said, using points by 3/31 of next year, if you’re not even guaranteed to have points in 2020... that’s a tough call. There is much more availability than normal due to COVID, true, but trying to use points within 3 months of getting them shouldn’t be counted on. You would need to be super flexible with dates, resort, room-type... and maybe even doing a split-stay... and it could probably be done 😏

So, my advice is plan to not use them, and be super thankful if you get to! (& definitely don’t pay for them 😉)

One thing when thinking about UY is forget about calendar year.

Points can have up to 3 years of life. Banked from a previous UY, the actual UY. And borrowed from following UY.

It also is based on the trip and not when you call.

So yes, an April UY can have points from 2019 still there as they were banked.

Assume a 3 month process from offer to points being bookable. That means you’d be looking a December before you could book something before they expire March 31st.

Thank you very much!

Thank you - that helps a lot!
