Requeting upgrade at Dolphin

Okay...I emailed the Dolphin requesting an upgraded view if available. I am a Gold SPG member and they replied that I would be upgraded at time of check-in if available.

Any other advice?

Should I email or call closer to the time of our arrival? I know on previous trips...I emailed room preferences the week before my arrival.

Before our stay at the Dolphin last July, I went to my reservation on the Starwood site and requested a room in the East wing on a high floor with an Epcot view. We had reserved a standard room at the teacher's $129 rate. When I checked in I asked if there was a chance of an upgrade. The woman told me she saw my request on the reservation and we were put in a room on the 11th floor with a view of Epcot, MGM and the Boardwalk!!
