I have heard many times on these boards people referring to "requesting" the same wonderful servers they had on previous cruises.....
How is this done???

We have only been on a 3day and will be going on a 7day in 05...so we have no knowledge of the magic servers can anyone recommend some???
I can not tell you how fabulous our wonder servers made our dining experience our 2 dd's absolutely loved them and my big "kid" dh did too.
I want to have that same experience when we are on the magic...

Thanks for your help
KC

:Pinkbounc I'd love to have Prudence from Jamaica ! She was our assistant waiter Jan 2003 when we took our oldest Grandson, Nicholas. She always made him smile ! Now ( July 10 ) we're taking all 5 Grandchildren and their Mom's and Dad's and I know Nicholas would love to see Prudence ! Does anyone know her ? Is she still on the Magic ? Has she been promoted to head waiter yet ?

We had DeePak on this past cruise and we loved him. I am hoping to request him on our 4/05 cruise. He said he is going to do that for three more years so he should be there! He is actually going to miss the 14 day cruise in May since he will be on vacation home then.

AprilGail2....have you requested servers before??
How do you do it? Before cruise??? when you board???

Thanks again,
KC

If you call DCL, they can add a note to your reservation just like any other request (if you wanted one rotation over another or a certain table size). I would recommend sticking to one request, as they won't always be able to give you everything, so go with what's the most important to you. You can also fax in the request or e-mail, I guess, anything to get it put in your file.

This past cruise we were hoping to have Sammy (Sompong from Thailand) and Adem (from Turkey), who we had a year ago on our first cruise. They were fantastic and even got my dad to enjoy himself (he was a little perturbed that we were an adults-only group sitting at a table with young kids on the mostly adult rotation of LAP).

After faxing/calling/e-mailing your server request (and be as specific as you can - include asst. server and home countries if possible), when you first board the ship, go directly to wherever they are handling dining changes. The cast members there should be able to find out what rotation your server is working (and if they are on the ship at that time). Then, they should be able to switch your family to that rotation if necessary. The next thing they'll need to do is actually switch your table number so that you'll have your server.

For us, we were switched from the LAP to the APL rotation, as that's the one Sammy and Adem were on. Alas, there was a huge group of more than twenty people who were doing back-to-back cruises on the Magic and wanted to stay with them for the second part of the trip.

The upside is that we were on Sammy and Adem's rotation and actually sitting right next to their tables, so we got to see them a lot throughout the cruise. They stopped over and said hi when they could. Our servers this cruise were great and made our dinners very enjoyable, but they just couldn't beat Sammy and Adem in our minds. Let's just say that on the last night as we were walking out, Sammy and Adem were the one's that gave us hugs goodbye!

We've already put in a request for them on our next cruise, and the Lloyd, the overall dining manager (who became our good friend after some problems at Palo), said he would put in a special note since it didn't work out this time.

I'm glad we got the chance to meet some different people and it was great that we got to see Sammy and Adem as much as we did. So, that's about all you can do. And if it works out, great! If not, maybe next time :)

I've never done it before but I am goin to try to call a little before the cruise and request it.

On our Sept 3 day cruise we had a wonderful server. On our November 4 day cruise I wanted to request him, so I went to Wave Bands (where dining changes were to be requested) I found out that our server wasn't on the rotation we had (PTA) and we would have to change if we wanted him. We really like the PTA rotation, so opted to stay with it and hope for the best. Our new server was even BETTER than the one we would have requested, so in the end we were happy it worked out that way! :)

Thanks nejthelion,

I know the majority of the servers are wonderful......there are a few bad apples in the bunch.
I would just hate to get one of those bad apples, since dining is such a big part of our cruising experience...especially for the kids.
I have already requested late seating since the kids will be older this trip, don't want to be rushed back to dinner.

Anyone have experiences with bad servers???

I may just have to hope for the best (I know it will be) since I don't know that I want to change our dining time.

We just had a server named Leeroy from Jamaica on the Magic. He was less than wonderful. Our assistant server took up much of his slack and made dining pleasurable. He was pretty dry and rather slow compared to servers around us. In his defense, he was able to get a big bowl of raspberries and blueberries for my fruit lovin' son each time he ate with us.

You have to have Glenn and Carlos. If you can't get them, then ask for Adrian. These guys are all terrific. We ended up tipping Adrian too (he wasn't our waiter) because of the fun that we had with him.

You can call DCL and make a request for a particular server. However, they will not promise to honor the request.

When you board, you can go to "Dining Changes" in Sessions (deck 3 forward) and make your request. Again, they will do whatever possible. We've cruised the Magic 10 times, and always request our favorite.

If you don't know anyone, why not take "pot luck" on the first night? Most of the servers are truly wonderful. If you find that you aren't happy with your server, simply ask the head server to move you after the first night.

You need to be aware that requesting a server may alter your dining rotation. DCL makes an attempt to place families with "same aged" children on the same rotation. Thus, there is a rotation with primarily preschoolers, another with 5-8 ish....and one with primarily older kids/adults alone. The exact age splits are determined by a computer program looking at the ages of kids on the ship. So.....when we request our favorite server, even though my DD is now a teen, that can throw us into the "toddler" rotation.

You do have more flexibility with requests at late seating, as early seating is always full.

We had DeePak on our July, 02 cruise and my DDs, neices and nephews still talk about him all the time. We are all going again this August and I'm going to give it a shot and make a special request for him, hopefully it will work out. The kids would be thrilled if it did!!

to ohiominnie,
I am sorry that you didn't like Leeroy. We had him as our head server and he was wonderful. Goes to show you that we all have different perceptions of people. Lisa was also wonderful.

Wow, you must have been right near us! Which ones were you?? ;) We were the family of 4, although most nights our kids deserted us and we were down to 2.

Not that we didn't *like* Leeroy....just compared to what we have had in the past he didn't compare. I suppose if this was my first cruise, I'd have thought he was wonderful!

We were at Table 28 at the 6:00 seating.

we were at table 27, 6:00 seating. I had NO idea DIS'ers were that close! Which family were you? I know we were nearly surrounded by "big families" or combined families.

We just got back from the May 22 Western Cruise and had Navneet and Constantien for the late dinner seating Table 57 and we really enjoyed them they made dining a great experience!

we were the family that had the 3 girls. My in laws were also with us. My youngest is 3.
