requesting rooms

This is probably an idiot question but hey-ho, I'll ask it anyway!

We are staying at Port Orleans Riverside from the 21st Sept for 2 weeks. Two of the buildings will have just been refurbed by the time we get there.

As this is probably the only time that we will be able to go to Disney, we would be thrilled to get a refurbed room as they look so nice - it would really make our trip.

It seems that people who live in the states make frequent room requests and sometimes you get them, sometimes you dont, but it doesn't hurt to ask, does it!!?!

my question is this.....i am assuming that most of the people that live in the states book direct with disney (perhaps this is a daft assumption!). We booked with first choice and are flying with Thomson. Has anyone else travelling from the UK made a room request and how do you go about it? Or do you just chance it and speak to the people at check in?

Thankies :thumbsup2

We always make a room request and have always been given pretty much what we asked for so its def worth doing. I fax the hotel about 5 days before we go as apparently they make the room allocations 3-5 days before check in. :goodvibes

I always request a building and have this added to my holiday reservation. The requests are passed through to Disney about 10 days prior to arrival and ours have always been honoured.

Don't bother to fax. This used to be a good way to put in a request, but they have upgraded the reservation/check in system in the last year and you are then left relying on the goodness and efficiency of a CM who matches the piece of paper to your reservation.

Who did you book through? I would phone them and ask them to add a request.

I'd been wondering about the effectiveness of sending a fax actually. It just seems like such an archaic way to communicate! I plan on calling next week to request room locations for POFQ and SSR. :goodvibes

We book with virgin but find they don't always pass on the request to Disney, so we email disney and request our Disney reservation number. We then call disney about a week before to make the request.

hope this helps:thumbsup2

I am booked with First Choice and went to see them to ask about adding a request and they said that they can't to it - they aren't even provided with an e-mail for the resort like they are with other locations (non disney)

Where would I find the right telephone numbers and e-mail address?

Do you really think the fax thing is out of date? Most US based people still seem to use this method

It's not that faxing is out of date as much as that Disney's new reservation and room allocation system doesn't really lend itself to faxed requests. I'm not saying they won't work at all, but there is a high possibility that the fax will never be tied up with your online reservation on their system. Those who are still doing it are doing so because they are probably unaware of the changes which took place late last year or early this year.

So is it best to phone then?

Do you think there is any benefit to online check in?

Online check in only has generic requests available such as ground floor/pack n play. You can't make specific requests like that.

I would ask First Choice again to add it to your booking - VH did it for us last time we had a package holiday.

Failing that I would ask very nicely at check in.

We faxed our request this year and we got pretty much exactly what we asked for so I still think it's worth doing. The only time we have had a room in a location we haven't liked is when we didn't send a fax,

Both times we have stayed onsite I just added the room preference to the booking by phone (we booked directly with disney)

Both times we got what we wanted. We also did the online check in.

If your allocated room isn't what you want just politely ask for a different room.

I agree with 2Tiggies, we've been told by more than one CM that they no longer look at FAXed requests. If you want to request a specific area or floor etc. you need to add it to your booking. We always get our requests noted on our booking and we've pretty much always got what we wanted!

Good luck! :goodvibes

If you have your disney reservation number i'd give them a ring and note your preference - can't hurt :goodvibes

First choice say that they can't add a request on to the booking - i dont think I have a Disney booking number at the moment, only the first choice details. Its only 19 days until we go, so our tickets etc should arrive soon - hopefully that will have a bit more info with it and I will give them a call then :)

I always write....yes, write a letter and send it two weeks before we go. Its a bit like a begging letter :rotfl2: In the past when my daughter was younger i would get her to draw a picture on it!! Whenever i have checked in they have always had the letter on a file and produced it...and i have always got what room area i have requested. I include in the letter how many times we have visited, how much we have loved the resort in the past etc etc.

It might work for you xx

i put it on my reservation - i requested a particular section at pop century (not a particular building)..

we got our request.....the 70's ..

we LOVED the location!!!
