i live in Washington, Illinois and we were devastated by a tornado on Sunday. About half of our town was destroyed. Would you please pray for our town and all of the families that lost everything. Amazingly there was only one death, most people were at church when it hit, so many lives were spared.

I am praying for all of the families. The storms were very scary and I cannot even imagine what everyone is going through. I know there are people pulling together everywhere to help everyone out. It is difficult, but there are so many who care about you guys and what you have been through.

I'm in Peoria, and am still in shock about the tornado. I have family and friends in Pekin, and friends in Washington that were all safe and had minimal damage, but some of my coworkers lost everything. It just hurts my head and my heart to see all the damage, and all of the people still looking for their lost pets. I can't believe that with all that damage that there was only one fatality (my heart goes out to his family, because ANY fatality is one too many). I'm glad you were safe, and hopefully you didn't have much damage.

Continuing to send prayers and positive thoughts to the Midwest.

How big of an area was affected in square miles or so? I know there were very destructive tornadoes in several states over the weekend, just haven't heard details. Been away from the news.

There were tornados in Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky on Sunday, but the one in Washington, IL was the most destructive of them. Washington has about 15,000 people, and they estimated about 1,000 homes were destroyed. That tornado was about 1/2 mile wide and was on the ground for about 45 miles.

This is a video my friend's friend Marc made while the tornado destroyed his house. He was home with his oldest daughter Josie (his wife and other daughters were out of town). It has some bad language and it powerful to watch. Notice the line of trees at the beginning of the video and again at the end...

Prayers definitely sent for you and your community! I live in Northwestern Ohio and we had 5 tornados Sunday evening. One of them ripped through my sisters neighborhood while her and my niece huddled in the closet of their apartment. Debris was hitting their place and my sister said they could hear everything just being torn apart. That tornado lasted 12 miles and did a lot of damage to our hometown. But it wasn't anything near what your town experienced. Hugs!

I to live in washington and in the subdivision that was hit the hardest. Our house is standing but was severely damaged. We have a surprise quick trip planned in dec. briefly thought about canceling but after a week of clean up we are just mentally and physically exhausted and decided we really need this brief trip hopefully have some fun and to think about something else for a few short days. Hopefully the weather cooperates and it all works out so we can go and visit the mouse. Because I really need a good dose at the moment.

Shagley, I saw your post and video from your friend Marc. I am part of an organization that is currently deployed and helping with relief efforts in Washington, IL. My team ran across your friends video and were deeply impacted and asked me if I could find him so they could talk to him. Could you pm me please?

Thank you!

I'm glad you have something to look forward to and hope you have the most magical trip ever!

OP-- I hope you can feel the prayers coming from Champaign! My kids go to Catholic school here, and they are collecting donations to send to St. Patrick School. St. Pat's said 100% of the money will go directly to the families affected, so I hope it will help a bit. I can't imagine what you are going through. Not sure what else I can do, so I'll just keep praying!

Prayers to you from a town hit by two in Indiana on Sunday. So sad seeing the devistation!

I just sent you a pm.

OP - Just prayed for you and all the others affected by this devastation. I can't wrap my head around it. Prayed for provision for you all...safety, health, food and shelter and that insurance matters go smoothly to get you all situated again. So glad you're safe.

Shagley - that video really helped me understand better what it was like and I appreciate you posting it. It must've been very painful to do so. Those poor people, seeing their house get ripped up...I can hardly imagine. Your friend is brave to share it. I prayed for them. Thank you and God bless.
