Yes! Happy to hear of his improvement and hope he improves steadily every day.:D

I'm happy that you got encouraging news. Staph infections are very serious.

I'll be praying that your DS continues to improve.

I'm glad his creatinine levels are improving a little.

{{{HUGS}}} my friend. I continue to keep Austin in my prayers.

I'm so glad to hear he's improving Audrey. Continued prayers and pixie dust for a speedy recover and strength for you. I know how hard this must be for you too!!! Please remember to keep your strength up as well.

More prayers and {{HUGS}} for Austin and Audrey......... we hope that he's back on his feet in time for vacation!!!

Audrey, I just saw this thread for the first time and am happy to read that there is improvement! I will pray for your sweet son, that his hospital stay may be as easy as possible and that his recovery will be swift and complete!

Take care of yourself too!!!

There was no improvement in Austin's creatinine level today - the doctor was a bit disappointed but we are grateful that it didn't increase. His blood pressure was way up all night - they are trying a different medication today. He did eat half a burrito last night and kept it down, that's encouraging.

He is pretty disappointed today because the doctor told him that if he drank lots of water yesterday they would let him go home this afternoon. I wish they wouldn't do that. He tried so hard but since his level did not improve and his blood pressure is up they're keeping him. He understands that he needs to be there and he is cooperating well with the doctors and nurses. There is a ton of stuff to do at PCH - today some Ringling Bros. clowns are coming and at the hospital school they will have some zoo animals.

They removed his IV last night so that may explain why his creatinine level did not improve. They want him to get enough fluid on his own. If there is no improvement tomorrow they will likely restart the IV.

Thanks for the prayers!

Audrey, this is the first I have seen of this thread, Austin is in my prayers and I hope he improves as quickly as possible and is home soon!

Just discovered this thread and will add my prayers to the pile!

*HI AUSTIN!*

I bet those circus clowns kept you entertained. :D

Am looking forward to hearing the updates of how you're doing.

We are home!

The doctor came in and told us that something showed up on Austin's leg xray from Wednesday so we had to go for an MRI this morning. It may be a benign (not cancerous) tumor or some other unexplained inflamation of the knee cartilage. Good news - if it had turned out to be a staph infection of the bone Austin would have had to be on IV antibiotics for six weeks! The radiologist is certain that it is not cancer or infection so we will see an orthopedic surgeon in a week or so.

Austin's creatinine level was 4.1 today, and his blood pressure is being controlled by two oral meds. He feels great and for the most part seems back to his old self. Kids are so amazing! His kidneys will continue to heal and he is getting his appetite back. He has requested hot dogs and french fries for dinner tonight.

Doctor predicts that Austin's kidneys will be fully healed by September; we will see him weekly for a while to monitor his progress.

We are so grateful for the prayers and support from this board - you guys are great. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!

I just said a prayer for you and your son.

Prayers that his recovery continues well. Please keep us updated when you can.
