Requesting prayers for my son (UPDATE PAGE 7)

Wow - how uplifting to come here and feel the outpouring of prayers and concern.

The ultrasound results were good - the damage appears to be recent and that's what we were hoping for. It supports the diagnosis and means that there was no preexisting condition.

His kidney function is slightly (.1%) improved - we'll take it, it's moving in the right direction.

He has no appetite but that's probably ok since he's having trouble keeping anything down. His blood pressure is still up as is his temp. All of these symptoms are related to the kidney failure and should improve as the kidney function improves.

They are keeping him hydrated with the IV and monitoring everything very closely. We will have another blood test to determine kidney function in the morning.

Thank you so much, I can't tell you how reassuring it is to know that you are all praying for us.

My niece was hospitalized with a staph infection for 3 weeks when she was 3 months old...it was very scarey. She made a complete recovery and is now 30 and expecting her 4th child. I hope Austin's recovery goes as well.

How is Austin today, Audrey? I hope he is much better.

Austin's creatinine test came in at 4.6 today. This is a good improvement from yesterday, when his level was at 5.2. When we were admitted to PCH on Sunday he was at 5.3. This test measures kidney function and for a kid Austin's size and age it should be at about 0.8. A reading over 4.0 indicates serious renal function impairment so he still has a way to go but the doctors are happy with his progress.

The doctors feel confident that Austin's high blood pressure, nausea, lack of appetite and fever are all related to kidney function and will improve as his creatinine number goes down.

His spirits are up, and he is really enjoying the visits, cards and emails. I printed out this entire thread for him! I have always believed in the power of prayer - we can't thank you all enough for helping to bring our little boy out of danger.

We are so grateful for the support and love - I will update again tomorrow.
