Hey guys, I know this is here somewhere but I can't seem to find it...
How easy is it to request off when you're down on the CP? I read somewhere a while ago that it's a possibility to have off Friday/Saturday one week and Saturday/Sunday another, giving you four days off in a row?
Has anyone ever done this and what are the chances that you can get it to happen?
Thanks!

It's possible, although timing is pretty important. If you know the specific dates you're going to want to take off, put in a Hub request as soon as you know and at least 2 weeks beforehand. It's not guaranteed that they will honor the request, but it's best to give them really advanced notice. I can say with close to 100% certainty that if you request a holiday off, and it's not already on one of your scheduled days off, it will get denied. When I did the CP in 08, I arrived in May and within a day or two of getting my Hub access, I put in a request to have my birthday off. Well, my birthday is July 4th so you can guess what I was doing that day and it wasn't drinking around the world like I had hoped (that was a couple days later). So yeah, if the timing is right and all the circumstances are in order, it is possible to have 4 days or more off in a row.

Also for the record, in the scenario you described, you would only get three days off in a row because the work week starts on Sunday and ends on Saturday. So you would get Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off, then work again until the following Saturday. 4 days off in a row over 2 work weeks would be Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

In addition to that, if you put in a time off request and it gets denied, you can always try giving away your shifts.

Awesome, thank you for such a quick reply! I was thinking probably sometime in late September, since it might be least busy around then.

If I did request off for those days as soon as I get down there (early August), when would I find out if I was approved for them? Or do you find out when the schedule goes up (which I assume happens every week?)?

Also, I completely meant Friday/Saturday, Sunday/Monday (I almost typed it wrong again!), but at least you kind of understood what I meant :)

Florida-Site Labor Operations does have a standard to respond to all Labor Requests (including Requests for Time Off) within 48 hours for all requests submitted in a timely manner.

It doesn't always happen, but that's the standard they aim for.

Oh awesome! So if I requested off early on, I *should hopefully* find out if I got it not too far after? Like say, giving me a chance to buy some plane tickets a month ahead of time? :)

Oh, you'll have more than enough time if you submit it that far out.

Sorry, I'm going to hijack your thread for a second.

I will want off sometime in between September 3-14 because my family is visiting then. How many days in a row do you think it would be possible for me to get off? And would it be better for me to email recruiting about it now?

I was denied anything over 2 in a row. I tried 4 once, they denied that right off the bat.

Recruiting probably won't guarantee anything, unless it was related to something educational. I would just say try your luck when you get there, since September isn't the busiest you might be able to get Friday-Mon.

Just another suggestion for people wanting time off...

If you get denied on the hub, talk to your area managers. I can't speak for all locations, but mine were pretty amazing and almost always willing to work with you :goodvibes

Also, in regards to giving your shift away, you can definitely do that you just have to be careful who you switch/give it away to. If you're a CP and you give it to a full-timer and if the full-timer gets paid more that could be an issue... especially if it's over a holiday... or if the person will have more than 40 hours that week, they'd be getting overtime... just things to consider when looking for people to give shifts too. It almost always has to be cp-cp trade or giving away to. At least that's how it was for me. It might not be a disney wide thing. I'm not sure. :goodvibes

Ok. So let's just say hypothetically that I requested off for 5 days or so.. and I actually got it. What if I wouldn't make enough money that week to cover the rent? Would I owe them immediately or would they take it out of my next pay?

They will deny the request if it creates doubleback or OT for the person you are giving to. I gave 3 shifts/week away to part time and seasonal people from early October through January. I ended up getting a full time IT job, so I manipulated my CP schedule to be when I could work and when I couldn't work, I gave the shift away or talked to a manager to make the shift in a time frame that would work.

If you do not make enough to pay your rent, they will take money out of the next check, and the check after, until you are caught up. This is where you have to be really really careful, because being gone a week, then getting slapped with double rent when you get back, you end up with no income for like 3 weeks. Not fun.

I have managed to get an entire week approved off on my 2 college programs, so it is possible, depending on your location and how busy it is supposed to be.

You will pretty much always get denied if you request more than 2 days off because as a CP they have to schedule you for 5 days a week. The last week of your CP youleave on a Friday. I was sceduled to work Sunday-Thursday 48 hours and when I tried getting Thursday off so I could have time to pack and go to the CP graduation party I was denied because they were considering Friday and Saturday as my days off even though I wouldn't be an employee anymore..

You can do the fri/at and sun/mon the other post was talking about because it's two different weeks. And then you can always give away shifts and request either short shifts or specific times (like an opening shift or something) to work you schedule so you can have fun with your family.

I forgot about that too. My last week my two days off were days I was already home, since they figured your last week they didn't have to schedule you days off since you will be leaving. I ended up working like 9 days in a row. It wasn't that bad though.

I don't know if this is company wide or if it was just my role- hospitality- but a few weeks before I was scheduled to leave, I got an email at my disney address addressed to all managers saying to make sure that your CP's, ICP's and career start cast members were NOT TO BE scheduled the day before their departure date.

I was the only CP that was scheduled the day before my departure date so I asked my manager about it and he called someone and sure enough, it was mandatory.

I'm not sure if it's a new thing, or if it was just for my role, but I got my last day off, which was really really nice.

So it wouldn't give me any advantage really to email recruiting? I've heard of some people doing that, so I was curious.

How will you know if your request has been approved? When I click on view requests it says approve and complete? does that mean I have the days off I requested?

Is there a limit on the amount of days you can request off throughout the CP? Or can you request as many as you want?

You can make as many requests as you want. Just remember, you're still paying rent every week and they will take it out of as many paychecks as they have to until it's paid. You don't get paid much, so getting docked extra rent money on consecutive paychecks will leave you hurting.

I'm just concerned with my boyfriend coming to visit me. If I only would be able to get two days off- that doesn't seem like enough! He's never even been to Disney, two days is not enough to even see all four parks really! He'd be coming down by himself so it's not like he'd really have anything to do while I was working.

I don't see why requesting two days off is a big deal whatsoever- you're scheduled two days off a week generally anyway, why does it matter what two days?
