Requesting multiple entrees (etc)

Hi.
I have heard of people on Disney Cruises asking for two or more appetisers, entrees or desserts so that they can try different things. How does this work then? Do they give you smaller versions or sample sizes? Surely otherwise people will end up eating too much or wasting a lot of food?

Is there a limit to this? E.g. you couldn't request everything on the menu!?

Just curious...

We haven't ordered everything at once, but DH often orders two entrees, one without the veggies/sides. Just tell the waiter what you want.

At Palo they'll bring you half an entree of the pasta. Some dishes can't be split without ruining the "presentation." Again, just talk to the waiter.

I'm not sure about Remy, but everywhere else you can order whatever you want, when you want. Two soups, a salad, an appetizer, and two entrees; sure, go for it. Throw on three desserts for good measure too. They'll even mix and match a side dish from one entree along with an entree from something else.

We didn't try it at Palo though, but they did offer us if we wanted more than one item.

Just have a good relationship with your serving team and you should be set.

Jerry

My DH often gets a "double" entree in the MDRs - minus the extra potato/rice/vegetable.

I was curious about this too, especially on some menus where I don't like any of one category but multiples in the other categories seem interesting. If I, say, don't like any appetizers but want a soup and a salad, would I sit through the first course with just bread and then have to eat two things during salad time or will they bring something out early?

My husband ordered 2 entrees one night. He wanted to try the Venison but wasn't sure he would like it so he got the Lobster tail as well. He didn't like the way the Vension was prepared so he was glad he ordered both. It actually evened out because I didn't like the choices most nights and got salad a few nights as my main meal! LOL

Escargot is definately something I like to double (or triple) up on....in fact I've ordered another order for dessert on a ship before!

My husband ordered the steak one night and got the Mac-n-cheese from the kids menu to add to it.

You can get what ever you want.

It depends on your servers. We've been on 8 cruises. Some servers will bring your soup first because it is hot, then bring your salad with the soup/salad course. Some just bring both at the same time. On the other hand, I've ordered two appetizers and no soup/salad and receive both appetizers at the same time. Some servers know how to be flexible and don't, even if you ask.

And yes you eat alot and yes a lot of food is wasted

And how do you know this?:confused3

My DH routinely ordered 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, and 3 desserts.
DS often ordered 2 entrees and 3 desserts.

They finished every bite. Every.Last.Bite.

They only eat one meal a day - no breakfast or lunch, so they save up for dinner.

I almost always double up on dessert. One item from the main menu and a mickey bar cause they're awesome!

I am a little picky, so several nights I only ordered a soup when every one else at our table ordered an appetizer and a soup/salad (sometimes both if you're like my husband). One night I ordered two appetizers and another night I ordered the mashed potatoes that came with another meal in addition to the ones that came with my meal.

I have no problem with people ordering two meals. We got two ribs on Pirate Night. Two.

PS: You can order Mickey Bars from room service. Just FYI.

The only thing I know that comes in sample sizes is the dessert. They have a sampler with three items from that night's menu on one tray. Otherwise, go for it and order whatever you like.

BTW - DCL portions are smaller than most portions on land. They are actually the size of serving that you should have ;) but they look small on the plate if you are used to eating out at other restaurants

Loved that they offer the "Sweet Temptations" on the desert menu every night. A sampling of three of the deserts and each portion is 2-3 bites. Often I would have a bite of each and feel satisfied.

DH and me sometimes spilt an extra entree. I usually have appetizer and salad. On our last cruise our server brought extra calamari for everyone at the table. Or I have had our server bring all the desserts if we can not decide on one. They usually will say something like let me take care of your decision and out comes all choices or a least 3. We are always at the 2nd seating, so maybe it easier to get more. We try not to be greedy and wasteful, but we do order extra if we feel like it. Enjoy!!!!:thumbsup2

It does all seem so decadent, I agree. But, I have learned to do what I wish. Enjoy, guilt-free! It is your time away from all of that.

I know the answer to this one. I don't order extra entrees but I have a lot of wasted food. It is just too much for me. Also my child often has a lot of wasted food as he (well he ate like a child).

All restaurants have a lot of wasted food, including that food that is cooked, but never ordered. :) :)

The first night of our cruise my DH couldn't decide between entrees so the server brought him both. After that, every night when he would order his main dish, the server would ask what he wanted for his 2nd entree...and he ate both everynight.
Our DD 7 tried very hard to eat new things, but after her 1st dinner sat untouched the server pryed out of her what her favorite food is- mac and cheese. Each night my daughter ordered off the menu, and along with her order was always a dish of mac and cheese. Yes, there was a lot of wasted food- but the server made her feel brave enough each night to try new foods, knowing if she didn't like it, her mac and cheese would be there. The food itself wasn't spectacular, but the service made dining our favorite part of the trip!

I almost always order two appetizers. I just love appetizers!!! In my experience they are quite a small portion, often just two bites. Sometimes I just eat salad and appetizers, or just soup. I've also ordered 2 entrees and asked for only one set of sides but still had them bring two full plates. I think its harder for the servers to have to do something special instead of just grabbing a set plate. Whatever, I don't worry about it. It is a lot of wasted food though.

DH and I almost always order 2 desserts then share bites. I'm picky about desserts and often do not like one or even both but that's me.
