Requesting help please

I'm honestly not sure if this post belongs here or on the UK community forum (or anywhere else for that matter) so please move to where appropriate if necessary.

I did a study abroad to London in college and have been wanting to go back for quite a while. My family is finally in a position to be able to travel to London but we need help finding a resonably priced place to stay that has at least 1 bedroom and a kitchen.

I think I can handle the tube passes, and getting around to most places but the lodging is where I'm having difficulity. There is so much information on the internet one doesn't know what is reputable, decent, etc. If anyone could direct me to some websites, places to stay or any other useful money saving information I would be greatly appreciative.

Do you want to stay IN London?

My suggestion would be to look at being outside of central London because it's ridiculously expensive.

My advice would be to look on hotels.com or sites like that and look for areas that are inside the tube service area but outside of London.

When I was in London for my study abroad I stayed at Regent's. What zone (using the tube) would be outside London enough to save money? I planned on getting an Oyster card as I'm fairly familiar with the tube and remember quite a bit from my stay. Baker Street station was what I used extensively.

I was thinking of trading my DVC points into RCI for a stay but the closest place seems to be about 1.5 hours away from London and would like to be much closer than that.

I have been looking on tripadvisor.com as well but I think sometimes locals / natives have more of an insight on areas that are good / bad / expensive, etc.
