Requesting a specific room - bad idea or harmless?

I have a question. When I've done the online check-in I don't see anything that lets me request something specific. Are you only able to request a room/location by faxing things in?

Online check-in lets you make general requests like "upper floor" or "lower floor" (these vary by resort). So i just make sure what I select matches the fax request, and if it doesn't I leave the online form blank.

We had great luck with our requests. At AOA we got the exact area we requested in the cars block, perfect view of the lake. At CBR, we got the location we wanted, close to pool and bus stop and first floor with connecting rooms.

We also have used Touring Plans room request. Some times we have gotten the room we wanted, sometimes close, and sometimes no where near. Not sure if it helps, don't think it hurts to request. Most of the time, we are not in the room enough to really matter.

I almost always make requests (via phone), but I would guess the chances of getting a specific room would be slim to none. Much better idea to request the building, floor, view, etc. I've almost always been given what was requested and when we weren't, I asked at check in if there was any chance to move to a room that fit my requests and they've always been able to.

Good luck getting what you are hoping for!

I always do online check in and request maybe upper floor and close to lobby...however. In April and June of this year, I researched rooms through touring plans and had them request a specific room for us. Both times, and I mean both times, we got THE room. I was shocked and thrilled!

I have used TP room requests my past 2 WDW trips. The first trip (Boardwalk Inn), I got the exact room that I requested. The second trip (Saratoga Springs DVC via RCI points), I didn't get the exact room. However, the room that I was assigned met all of the criteria that I had listed in the notes section of the fax request. I'll be using TP again on my next trip.
