Requesting a different food at Ohana

I booked a PS at Ohana. I'm allergic to peanuts so I need to call the restaurant about that. But I see they have shrimp and chicken wontons as an appetizer. Would it be okay if I requested ahead to just have chicken wontons or if they could substitute a spring roll or something? I do not eat shrimp at all. I don't want to call and seem like an annoying customer. Plus Im going to have to request a kids's meal for DS because the only thing he will eat is the rice. Anyone know what the kid's meal is? TIA

I'm not sure if they will substitute the wontons unless they just happen to already have chicken, which would be odd if they did since they don't serve them... I would just not eat them. Believe me, there is ENOUGH food to eat that if you skip a couple of things you'll still be okay. Think of it as a buffet with much too much to eat anyways, so just pick and choose.

My DH didnt like their dressing but we never thought about requesting another kind, he just didn't eat it. gave more room for other things ;)

I didn't see any spring rolls, either. I'm not sure if they would track one down for you... because like I said, there is SO much food, it's not liek you won't have enough because you don't eat the wontons.

The kids meals are typical of all the other restaurants, I believe they just get them from the restaurant next door (is it Kona?)... Chicken fingers, mac and cheese, etc. You can just ask your waiter for that when you get there, I believe, since they just get them next door... they dont need advance notice.

=)

The appetizers will be served on a lazy susan they will bring to the table. As Aimeedyan said you can avoid any of the selections you don't want. Also, they will bring more of anything you like. This is great for me because I like the appetitizers more than the meat.:D

Yep, you don't have to worry about requesting anything else.

This meal is served family style at the table..you eat what you want..get more of what you want..and just let the rest sit.

enjoy!

We recently dined at Ohana with our DS who has a peanut allergy. The only things they told us were off limits were obviously, the peanut sauce, and the bread and the shrimp wontons. The only reason those 2 were off limits were because they arent made onsite so they couldnt confirm that they were peanut free. However, DS had taken a couple bites of the bread before they told us this and had no problem.
Go and enjoy!

Some other choices for the kids are hot dogs and grilled cheese.

If you substitute for kids, do you still pay $9.95 or do you pay the price of the kids meal $4.95? I have a child that just turned 3, and it kills me that we have to continually pay $10 for all the buffets and character dinings we have booked when she eats almost nothing!!

I am sure the buffet police will respond to this but until my child turned 3 1/2 I just said he was not quite 3 yet and only one CM looked at me suspiciously. Our child would eat one spoonful and that would be it and there is no way I would pay that much for one spoonful.

I don't mind paying for a child's meal(hotdog, grilled cheese etc.), but Ohanas food she will not eat!

Both of my children ordered "alternate" children's selections and we were charged $9.95 for their meals. I questioned the server and he said that they offer the "alternate" selections as a courtesey and it doesn't lower their meal cost. I paid it, because if they didn't offer, both of my kids would have eaten like birds, at least with two grilled cheeses, they cleaned up.

The first time we ate at Ohana our kids were not charged the full price for all you can eat. I meant to check what they were charged on our past visit, but I forgot.
Trust me I feel your pain. We recently paid $10.00 for DS to eat 1 donut at Chef Mickeys, and between our 2 DSs, that seems to be the norm at those meals. But, we have fun so its worth it. :D

i just tell myself we're paying for the "character experience" or entertainment not the food... neither of my kids will eat anything other than dessert at the HDDR, yet we're paying full price for them there... i know i will have to buy them dinner either before or after *sigh* but what's a mom to do? just 'cause they have limited taste buds, i am not going to suffer thru counter-service for a week! (i guess i could just try to eat mine plus their money's worth! LOL! NOT!)

Gigi, you can get kids alternatives for them at HDD. I had heard you have to call ahead to have them and that is what we did, however others here have reported they just order it when they are there and can still get something.
It was a couple years ago, but I think my kids had macaroni & cheese.

thanks camcolt...

although if history repeats itself, my kids won't like the mac/cheese at wdw either... they did not like it last time at luau... i really wonder who's kids these are 'cause dh and i are both pretty adventurous eaters! LOL!

LOL! I feel your pain. My youngest only eats hot dogs, pasta, and pizza. ;)
I believe Ive heard people say they have gotten hot dogs there too so if that will work for them you might want to give them a call and find out.
