Requesting a building at OKW?

I see allot of you seasoned DVC'ers speaking of certain buildings being better than others. How would I request this? Is it something you do prior to arrival, or do you ask upon arrival? There are 11 of us in total, and we are using a 2br, and two studio's. MS's did say they would attempt to put us in the same building, which would be nice. I guess the main question is; is there a "bad" building to be in? Thanks for your help. I want to make this trip the most magical. This will be moms first trip, along with my twin nephews (5).

I have been totally consumed with making sure everything is right for this trip. I bought a new camcorder, checking rental rates for power scooters for mom, making resies for dinner shows, and character breakfasts. I am going to need a vacation from this vacation!! This is like getting ready to throw a big part at home, and inviting people that have never been here before. I guess that's why they say "welcome home". It's truly like being home.::yes::

If you are looking for that many units in the same building, I would take what they offer. I don't really think there is a really bad place to be at OKW. It will be difficult enough to find those units in one building.

I agree. Keeping you all in one bldng. with that many units reserved will be tough - plus any requests you make should be put in order of importance. You may want to make requests like ground floor for your mom since she'll be in need of a scooter and most likely won't want to climb stairs (easier if you'll have strollers and small children too) and maybe "dedicated" 2bdrm since you'll have kids with you vs. a "lock-off". A particular bldng. would be further down the list I'd think. Make any requests with MS before you leave btw and they usually try and do their best to accommodate you on what they can.

That all being said, I've never had a "bad" view in all my stays so I'm sure you'll enjoy;)

Also, when we have used the scooter, they have either put us on a first floor or an elevator building. If you don't get those and she is ambulatory at all, you can leave the scooter plugged in at HH in Papa's Den. They have parking places for them there. It is also where you pick them up.

FYI. I just got off the phone with MS about the scooter and GVs. It seems that the only GV that is on the first floor is the handicaped room. All of the other GVs are on the second and do not have an elevator within the building complex. So, I would have had to carry the scooter up the stairs.

MS did call bell services for me and they did say they would store the scooter for me every night. My MIL should be able to walk up the stairs so I guess this is the solution for me. So, if you have a scooter and are on the second floor with no elevators in sight, you can store the scooter with bell services. How you get the person up the stairs is another matter altogether ;)

Thanks Diane! That is also good to know!

If you'll be using the buses much, ask for a building near the first stop so you'll almost always get a seat & you're first off after a long day in the parks.

If you'd like to walk to DTD or SSR, the 54,55,56 buildings are back in that corner where the path begins, also a very quite area with a pool.

Like a little more resort action, stay near HH or Turtle Pond pool,

I think the only building I wouldn't want is the one where the bus does the u-turn. I've never stayed there, don't know the building # and it may be a great building to stay in.

i don't like the building where the bus turns around - 20, 21, 36, 40,44, 51 and 52 - this bothers me so if possible I avoid these building.

48 had the only view of the road that I ever got at OKW. So that is not a favorite.

if anyone in your party has a health concern - made sure when you made your reservations you mention it - especially if it is a medical problems - my mother is 82 and can't go up the steps - so we get first floor - when I travel solo or with friends I like to be a high as possible - much better views.

However I generally go with the view - either water, woods or golf (the most) - or near the bus stop, pool or HH.

your choice. It is generally better than way -

Wow, thanks for all the great responses. I certainly appreciate it. Mom can get around fairly well, just getting a scooter to get around the parks easier. She had one knee replaced last year, and is due to get the other done when we come back.

I think I will just leave location to the pixie dust fairy...can't go wrong that way. We will be there August 17-24, and I just got my lime green DIS lanyard. Just can't wait. :D

Just to clear up one little bit of missinformation in the thread. There IS one elevator building that has GVs in it. I believe it is #63.

I wish to throw in my thoughts having stayed a OKW for a couple of occasions in studios namely 64 next to the HH and in March in Bldg 20. This is where I spent my last 10 days before I headed to military duty in Iraq and this studio 2020 was excellent the view of the golf course and water was excellent and a lovely little pool with hot tub. It was very nice and friendly, whilst I heard the buses they did not bother me or my family and we live in a very quiet neighbourhood.

Have a great vacation.

Dianeschlicht is right about building #63 having a GV on the second floor. I have some room reports, but only 2 on GVs. #6322 is described as "handicapped-accessible". I also have that #1522 is a GV-that's second floor, I think. But #6322 is supposed to have a very nice view, while the people in #1522 weren't very happy with theirs.

There are no bad buildings at OKW, just let them do there best to put you into the same building. all buildings are close to a pool and bus stop. All are a short walk from the main area or you can take any bus to get to the main area(HH).

Well, I do believe the veterans more than MS. I might have actually heard that the 'handicapped-accessible' GV was in a building with an elevator, but, I probably starting thinking in my head: "Now what did DISers say about HA rooms?" and didn't hear MS for a few sentences thereafter. ;)

Thanks for clarifying.
