My 4 year old daughter has just been in the hospital for a week with a gallbladder problem. She was sent home with a drain bag and hopefully in a few weeks she will go back in to get her gallbladder removed. She is currently on an extremely low-fat diet. Even good fats (i.e. extra virgin olive oil, nuts) are bad for her. I'm told that after the gallbladder comes out, she will still need to watch her fat intake for a little while.

That brings me to my problem - we are booked for Disney at the end of September. Can the restaurants prepare her food without oil, butter, margarine, etc?

Well first let me say bless her little heart - what an ordeal for a sweet girl to have to go through :lovestruc

Most resturants are very good about accomodating special dietary needs. I would think once you have your ADR's planned, call WDW-DINING and ask them to put a notation on your ressie's for her dietary needs.

Another idea would be to preorder your in room snacks from garden grocer or some place similiar so you have some options available in your room for her to snack on that you don't have to worry in advanace about meeting her dietary needs.

Best of luck to you. I hope her surgery goes well & that you are surrounded by loved ones to give you some added support

Have a wonderful trip :cloud9:

They can definitely accommodate her. As TDTD said, I would call ahead and have a notation marked on all your ADRs. Ask to speak to the chef if necessary at your TS meals. CS places are not equipped for this, though, so maybe bring healthy snacks just in case. Check out the menus for places which offer veggie burgers, baked potatoes and things like that.

I can't believe such a little one would have to go through all this. I hope she makes a fast recovery and has a long and healthy life.

Just a brief warning about veggie burgers, though... I would insist on checking the fat content.

Best of luck.

I found this on another post (it was about autism, but the email address is what I was posting this for...), maybe you can email them for help:

At age 13 yrs., he's considered an adult for the dining plan, and it will be expected he'll order off adult menus. CS credits are interchangeable between kids and adults, so ordering off a kids menu isn't that big a deal. The best thing to do is to contact specialdiets@disneyworld.com. Let them know of the dietary limitations and that the family is on the dining plan and the child is 13 yrs. old. They'll email you a form to fill out with personal info and ADRs. Buffets and TS restaurants may not all have grilled cheese or cheese pizza on the menu, but if they know in advance, they may make it available, especially if there's nothing else he would eat there. You can also get direct email and phone numbers for the chefs if you want to discuss it food preferences personally.

I would suggest going to the disABILITIES Forum and look at Post #3 of the disABILITIES FAQs. There is a large section in that post dealing with special dietary needs, as well as many related links. You can get directly to the disABILITIES FAQs by following the link in my signature.

This is a very common topic of discussion in the disABILITIES Forum.

Thanks all, yes it's rare that kids have gall bladder problems, and even rarer for her because she doesn't have any other illnesses, and no family history of this problem. So if your kids complain about a bad tummy ache, don't ignore it!

I'll check out the links and other forum. I posted this question in DISabilities but didn't get a response.

Like others have said you'll have no problem at all for TS but she will probably not have tons of choices most likely plain grilled meats and pasta. For CS when it is a complicated issue you really need to use a CS location with a kitchen where they can prepare something for her. Epcot has sunshine seasons which has a kitchen and numerous ingredients to work with. They aren't super creative there so it would help if you look at their menu and suggest what she might like. They always have plain steamed veggies (usually brocc) and white rice. For MK we usually go to one of the monorail resorts for CS which is kind of fun. At AK we either take a bus to AKL which is LOVELY and a short ride away and eat at Mara where they are great with food issues or just eat snacks like big pretzel which the plain variety should be very low fat and it's filling. At DHS we often do 2 TS since we like the inexpensive ones--Sci Fi and 50's Prime Time. AT 50's they do a smores dessert which she may be able to eat since it's just graham crackers and marshmellows and chocolate syrup all of which are low in fat as long they don't put the actual chocolate on it. Otherwise desserts may be an issue. Many TS stock Itzakadoozie popsicles which are the same as they sell in parks which I think should be fat free just full of sugar. If you fax a request to special diets they can make sure each restaurant has items in stock for her as well as your resort CS. If you want specifics like skim milk just let them know. I would though also carry a few snacks and dessert treats like mickey lollies just in case.
