Request location of Saratoga?

I would like to buy some points at Saratoga in addition to my BWV points I bought last week.

My only hesitation is where I might get located. If I knew I could be near the lake across from DTD, I would go for it. I just don't want to be stuck way out away from everything I like.

Will I have to take my chances on unit location, or will they guaranty an area?

No guarantees when making ressies. I would expect you can make a request for a certain location like the rest of us do when making a ressie at the other DVC resorts. Sometimes we get our request and other times we don't. Of course the newly guarantee at BWV for a Boardwalk view is an exception.

I think I am misunderstanding you....Are you thinking that you will be assigned a particular building based upon when you buy SSR? If so, that's not how it works.

They just can't sell memberships if there are units available to accomodate guests who may want to make a reservation. We just purchased at SSR with a UY of August. This means that we can't stay with our newly purchased points until August. It dosen't mean that we will only be assigned to buildings that open in August.

I wasn't thinking that the timing of my purchase would have any bearing on the location of the unit I get.

Whether I purchase at all, will be determined.

My main reason for purchasing at Saratoga is to be close enough to walk right over to Downtown Disney. If I'm out at the far end of the distant lake, it looks like it could be a mile or more to the closest end of DD. That defeats the purpose for me. I want to be close to a lot of goings on. Even on vacation, I'm not much for sitting around waiting for a bus or boat. I rather just walk on over. Same for my teenage kids.

It looks like more BWV points may be best for me.

I didn't think I understood your question!

You can request your location when you make your reservation, but they are only requests and not guaranteed at any of the resorts as BillM indicated. With that being said, they do try their very best to accomodate you.

We have always had great luck at OKW when we wanted or didn't want to be in a specific location.

I can't speak in absolute distances, but I can offer some opinions on travel time.

From the furthest Congress Park building to the Downtown Disney Marketplace the walking time is 15 mintes at a leisurely pace.

If you look at a map of the resort 8, maybe 9 of the buildings currently under construction are pretty much the same distance away. From the remaining buildings one should be able to reach DD in about 20 minutes.

On the flip-side, if you're lucky enough to get the building closest to DD, you can make the walk in a mere 5 minutes.

If you're comparing to BWV, from a room roughly in the middle of the resort you're 20 minutes away from the gate to either Epcot or MGM. If the room is closer to MGM (15 minutes), then you're further from Epcot (25 min) and vice-versa.

You're not going to hear me bad-mouthing either resort, but I just thought I'd offer some perspective from someone who has been there. IMO, the travel distances on paper for SSR are very deceptive.

This is not true!!!
Your UY (AUGUST) means that your points will be available on August but you can still go before that if you would like. Go to your purchase agreement and look what date the estimated date unit is available for occupancy. You can advance your points to any time after this date. You do not need to wait until August to go. I think a lot of people don't understand this when they buy (or they get the wrong information). Email me if you have any questions.
