Reporter and Camerman killed on air.

And ummm...no censor. I'm just a little protective of innocents that may find themselves with the "wrong" name.

:rolleyes1Oh, please....there wasn't any sort of "John Smith" rush-to-judgement-mistaken-identity situation here. Google all you want , you aren't going to come up with duplicate Vester Lee Flanagans and it was legal authorities in VA, not some rumor blog or Facebook comment that I based my original and valid I.D. posting on.

I just hope this doesn't turn all racial.....he was an idiot man killing innocent people. :sad1:

I just heard on the radio that the shooter was a former employee of the TV station who was let go after several incidents that required disciplinary actions. Apparently he was rather disgruntled when they fired him. Report said that they had to have security come to get him out of the building on the day they let him go. The TV station manager (I think that's who was being interviewed) said they think this shooting was in retribution for the shooter having been fired.

That's what I read, too. The thing that stuck out to me the most was that the firing was 2 years ago. He must have spent countless hours since then carefully nursing his grudge. His acts today were pure evil.

I wonder if it was just a,spur of the moment thing. A man nursing a grudge sees a film crew and it sets him off. Wouldn't be surprising that he carried a gun.

a 20 page manifesto kinda seems to disprove that

Oh boy. Lots of information to mull through here, including his saying the bullets had the initials of the Charleston shooting victims on them, and praising other U.S. mass shooters, including those from Columbine, Virginia Tech and the school shooting. Says he's been stewing and angry for a very long time. Somewhat bizzarely posted a bunch of pictures of himself from days gone by over the past days on social media. Says he bought the gun two days after the Charsleston shootings; that that was the final straw, etc.

The shooter faxed a long diatribe to ABC where he claimed the shootings were in response to the Charleston shootings and mistreatment he received as a gay, black man. I guess that explains the photo on his Facebook page of him in a silver thong under a silver fishnet jumpsuit. I need brain bleach for that one.

Is his Facebook page still up?

Based on his manifesto I don't see how you can dismiss the racial motive. He says that he was motivated to shoot based on racial issues. In my book that makes him a racist. I think he was crazy just like I am sure the Charleston shooter is also crazy.

Tragedy after tragedy and we still won't talk about guns and mental illness. Everyone wants to talk about the crime but no one cares enough to change laws to try to fix this mess. Just idle gossip until the next one.

I am so shook by this today. I had a dream on Tuesday night about this happening here in MN. I am just...shocked.

Another day, another bunch of people dead at the hand of a gunman. And, there will be more tomorrow, and next week, and next month and next year. Sigh. I can't even get that indignant about it anymore. It's just so, well, expected. And, anyone who thinks otherwise hasn't been paying attention.

From what I have read, I don't think he suffered from "mental illness" in any way. He clearly understood what he was doing, methodically planned out the murders, wrote a seething 20-page "manifesto" explaining his feelings and actions, video taped the ambush and then posted it on-line after the fact, and when it was obvious he was about to be apprehended he killed himself. Other than his actions being something we cannot fathom doing personally, he hardly seemed detached from reality in any way.
