Reporter and Camerman killed on air.

I was out of pocket awhile. I will correct. I am certain I heard reports before I left he was dead.
Thanks TAX Guy. Appreciate the update.
In fairness, all initial reports did state that he was dead. Just the news competing to rush information out before the other guys.

And regarding the name of the shooter, dead or alive, he wouldn't have pulled the trigger during the live report if he didn't want notoriety. Constantly naming him only gives him what he wants.

Just so bizarre. What could have been the motivation?
I'm so sorry for everyone involved and who knows the victims.

I heard on one report that the shooter was a disgruntled ex-employee of the station.

So tragic for the victims. May they RIP

It was the police that initially told the media he was dead, not the media making assumptions trying to be the first

I missed that, thanks for the clarification! (though the media isn't exactly well known for reporting *accurate* breaking news!)

By reports, he was driving, being chased, and crashed his car. They found he had shot himself also.

IMO he must have stalked them from the news station to this location.
Not necessarily. If the live report was like most morning live reports, the crew did multiple "hits". All he had to do was turn on his TV to find out where they were this morning. Didn't this happen around 6:45A? They were probably on their last or next to last "hit" and would have been gone in 30-40 minutes.

This happened in my area. Alison Parker was covering a story on my street just last month. We saw her reporting the local news practically every day. Such tragic news. The news station WDBJ is minutes up the street from my sons high school. The moment word got out that the shooter was an ex employee, the schools went on lock down. Such a sad day for star city.

Fantastic, we have a new bar set for salting the wounds of depraved savagery -- film and broadcast your crimes for social media. That aspect alone is quite frightening in our keeping up with the Joneses, 15-min of fame culture.
My response to cabanafrau -- didn't you notice the photo in the signature of a Disboard poster on this thread? It's a rather famous photo of an execution murder that appeared on live TV and appeared on the front page of many newspapers in November 1963. I saw it on TV myself. Violence on social media isn't something new.

MSNBC Pete Williams has fresh info that the suspect is now deceased. (Reported at 2:17pm ET)

I live where this happened. I've been to the bridgewater plaze before, my sister lives right by there. The cops went by my work chasing this guy. The whole thing is very disturbing especially since the it happened during our morning news live. Our community is really shaken up about it. I am really shaken up about it. My condolences go out to the families of the victims. I cannot begin to imagine the amount of pain they are going through right now. My heart truly breaks.
