Report cards

It is report card time again and I have to say I couldn't of asked for a better report card from DS, top marks all around. I am curious, do you reward good report cards? I never have (he just finished 2nd grade), but I did tell DS how very proud I was of his accomplishments this year. I don't think I want to reward him with a gift or money, but I would really like to show him (besides telling him) what a wonderful job he did and while I have been pondering this I wondered what other parents did.

we un grounded dd ,, she brought a d up to a high c and and her se,mesters all up to a's and b's so we let her off grounding,, she spent last 5 weeks in her room with her school books , she broiught in 2 d's and 3 c's on midterm progress reports

Wonderful about the report card! I'm expecting yet another straight A reportcard from my oldest daughter. She's done really well this year in first grade! As for reward, we usually just go out to dinner to celebrate a good one... no cash or toy awards here. They aren't really needed.

I have four kids , My 5th grader got straight A's , my 4th grader got 7 A's and one B, she was upset with that, but we weren't!,
My 1st grader got all top marks,. My dd who graduated last week from high school got all A,s and B's. I am a VERY PROUD MOMMY.
We take them out to a special dinner and a movie.

I always rewarded my kids ($$$).......from 1st grade through high school.
Whatever worked I think they would have done fine no matter, but a little extra incentive never hurt.
They ended up graduating #10 (DS) and #1 (DD) in their high school classes

Wow, I am surprised your step son was promoted. What grade is he going into?

Thanks, Nancy, I am so very proud. I am sure you are just as proud of your kids, #1 in the class and #10 in the class is FABULOUS!!

Our kids get out on June 11th, so just a few days left here. Otto always gets all A's with a B or 2 thrown in. Kari did all right this year in the beginning, but her teacher just let me know that she will be recieving an award for Most Improved, and that she has pulled her math grade up tremendously. We had her in tutoring, and it really helped. I am sure her report card will be great. The kids in our district don't get letter grades (A,B,C,D,F) until 4th grade, so hers will be S, S+ and O.
We don't buy them things, but we do take them out for dinner. We are very proud of both of them!

I reward ds with money. This was started by my grandparents! I don't particularly remember my parents doing anything at all, but my grandparents gave me $5 for a good report card.

Yesterday was ds's last day of school. That's early to me for this area! Especially since public schools get out on the 11th and the next town over it's on the 18th. Can't get him into a summer program until the 21st. Now, if I were working at the present time, I'd be in major trouble!

My parents used to take me to a special dinner. I did the same with my kids. They still remember it, as do I.

this is the way it goes in our house...

A's & B's get cash award. Better grades=better paying jobs in the real world

C's get nothing. That's average. Anyone can be average. Gets you nowhere.

D's and below--Kids pay US. Failure is costly and not productive.

The amount of award or punsihment increases with the age level.

We take my DD out to the restaurant of her choice. When she makes principal's list, she gets to take a friend someplace fun. (i.e., snowtubing or something like that)

We do not pay our daughter for good grades.

However...her reward for a great report card is breakfast in bed! She loves the extra special attention on those mornings!

We give our children $1 for every A that they make. It gives them a little extra spending money. Sometimes I pay out a lot and sometimes I don't.

We give $1.00 for every A and $0.50 for every B, but then we do the dinner and a movie too. It might be bribery, but it helps. Another thing I do is, I give them $1.00 throughout the school year for every 100% test they receive too. Again, it's bribery, but it does make them want it more. I think both my kids got 100% on every spelling test this year. The teacher tricked me and gave a bonus word with each test, so even if the missed 1 and got that bonus (they didn't know what the word would be to study) they'd still get 100.

My kids were done on June 3rd, but they're mailing the report cards, so we don't have them yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they made honor roll. I think they did, but I wouldn't want to say they DID for a fact.

I know that my son got a 99% (or so he's saying) on his math final. This math final took 4 periods to take. Does anyone remember finals like that? I sure don't! Anyway, he says, when you see I got a 99% you own me one of those BIG what are they gallon size, tubs of ice cream in any flavor I want. He said he'd share with his sister, but he wants to be able to it as he wishes, without us saying, 1 scoop only. I don't know what to do, I want to reward him, but to just let him have at it? LOL Maybe his report card will say he got a 98%? I can hope!

I always gave my godkids money for good report cards and I will do the same starting this year with my daughter when she starts school. School is her job and she will be rewarded for a job well done. My friends daughter gets 50.00 every time she makes the high honor roll from her uncle...I will probably starts Kasey out with 2.00 for every A, 1.00 for every B and nothing for C's D's or F's...only thing she gets with those is extra time sitting at the table that quarter studying!

Thanks for the replies, it is interesting to see how others do this.

Girls Scout Leader, that was a very interesting outlook, I like that thought process.

We took DS out to dinner last night and we toasted his wonderful grades and took him out for ice cream. DS also talked to one of his grandma's and she already told him she was sending him some money for his good grades and I know his other grandma will give him $1, as her father did when she was growing up. DH and I will not be giving DS any money, but if the grandparents chose to that is okay.

He got all F's and he is being promoted to the next grade?
That's crazy.

I give DS $10 ea quarter for his report. He gets mostly As & Bs (w/an occasional Cplus mostly on those interim reports). We look at it as his "job". He doesnt get an allowance for helping out around the house (bringing his clothes upstairs, unloading the dishwasher, taking care of his hermit crabs, etc).
Also take him to Chuckees

We usually do a trip to Chuck E Cheese....they'll give the kids tokens for their report card. Then we buy the pizza and drinks deal and get more tokens. We also let them bring a friend along.

No Cash.....just Chuck E Cheese! But they're thrilled with it!
