Replacement of the Fake Monorail Shuttles at MCO

Ok - show of hands here -

Who's joked with their first time travelling companions that the terminal shuttles are actually monorails that take you straight to the park!
In vancouver the sky train takes you from the airport into the city.

If I'm not mistaken there are 4 in total; two sets of two. They had pics on FB taking one of the trams off the track.

This is the worst news I have seen all month :(. What's going to replace these beautiful things?
Edit: oh I thought they were completely tearing this thing down, not just replacing the trains! Phew I can take this life support of now. New trains look cool. Maybe not as iconic but I'll have to wait to see it in person and not just the scale model

There are two that run to 1-59. They are both running. I'm here now watching it.

I can't speak about the other tracks.

I don't believe so they just removed the first old train today. I think I also heard they were going to do some track work and stuff like that.
Are you certain they started with gates 1-59 ? I didn't even see a crane or a sign of construction.

I don't know which gate they started with but they did start today. I've seen pictures of them taking the trains off with a crane.

Well that explains it.... I was under the impression they were starting with 1-59. No wonder I saw both of those tracks running today. They must have started with a different track.

I was going to say, none of cars were roped off last week for Gates 1-59. I must be to the other gates.

According to their Twitter, they are working on the APM from gates 30-59 first. Also said it will take about a year to complete each airside (block of gates). Gates 1-29 are separate from 30-59. There are two tracks that service each airside, so I am hoping that they keep one train going while working on the other. Its either that or they have to bus from the gates to the main terminal.

That is true. I meant to type 1-29. Not sure why I kept typing 59.

Wow...slow news day, huh?

I find it ironic that the inter-terminal tram is even worth the ridicule of Disney fans on a pedestal...what is the angle with that?

I mean...it's not as though the Disney monorail system is in peak condition...

And they kinda gave up on that as a systems decades ago...

...and have spent the last 10 years looking for bigger and better belchers...

Haters gonna hate...I guess ;)

When's the last time the Disney monorails saw some love?

I was going to make a joke that MCO is updating their monorail system before Disney, but I want to make sure I'm factually accurate :p

Most received new wall carpet about a year ago. That's about it. The monorail automation is still being worked on as well.

Just great. Our plane doesn't get into Orlando until 10 at night and we can't get an earlier flight. Now we definitely won't be getting to our hotel till Midnight. :snail:

I wouldn't expect this to affect your travel time much.
