Replacement Mattress for Fold Out Sofa Bed?

We regularly vacation with my parents in their RV (class A big rig), which means sleeping on the fold out sofa bed. But, as most sofa beds are, it's a nightmare to sleep on. The mattress feels like sleeping directly on coils covered with thin cloth, and when it's on the frame, we have the added benefit of a large metal bar digging into our backs (we ended up putting the mattress on the floor to improve at least that part....but then we took up more space and my parents couldn't walk around us to get to their bedroom).

My parents were kind enough to get a memory foam topper when we did Fort Wilderness last year, but it presented its own problems - my husband and I tended to roll to the middle and struggle to get out because it was too deep. Plus, it couldn't fold it (the topper) up in the sofa so we had to put it on top of the mattress in the bedroom every day (made even more complicated by the fact that we work on different schedules than my parents: they are usually still asleep when we are ready to hit the parks!).

Anyone find any replacement mattresses that they found worked okay? I'm not expecting the most comfortable bed ever, but just a workable improvement would be nice. It's a 60x75 size (QueenXL). I've seen a few places list Air Dream as an option, but I've seen mixed reviews.

Greetings: I see by your avatar you live in Indy. Perhaps try going to a mattress store that makes mattresses and tell the sales rep what your specific issues are. The perhaps try out the mattresses in the showroom. Then you should (hopefully) be able to find a comfortable mattress that will fit the RV bed. I would avoid the RV Mattress websites, much like anything with the word wedding attached to it, if it has RV attached to it, they charge more. Good luck!

Perhaps you might find an inflatable mattress that you can put on top of the existing mattress. It can be deflated when the sofa bed needs to be folded up. Good Luck!
