I LOVE my Canon G11 but it just died on me yesturday (of course while I'm on vacation). I am debating whether to get another G11 or the G15. Anyone have experience with both. I do have a telephoto lens that connects to the G11, I'm assuming the G15 will have the same thread connections. Any downgrades or big differences between the two? I don't want to assume the G15 is better just because it's newer. Thanks!

If it was a cheep P/S (<$100), it probably would not be worth fixing.

Depending upon the failure, a G11 might be worth getting fixed. I would certainly investigate with a Canon service center. At the very least, they might replace it free a give you a big discount on a referbed G11 through the Canon Loyality program.

Good to know, I'll check it out. I'm afraid it might be an expensive fix, pics coming out all white, looks like they're overexposed, then they started coming out all black. It's not the screen because I can review all the other pics fine.

The G15 was a huge upgrade over the G12, (The G12 was a slight improvement over the G11).

The biggest changes, 53% faster autofocus, same focal length on the lens, but large aperture (f/1.8 - 2.8 vs. f/2.8-4.5). Better video features.

I would see if you can't find a deal on the G15 (the G16 is just a minor upgrade)

I'd also suggest taking your camera small camera store and have someone knowledgeable about Canon camera take a look at it. They could probably confirm if it is just a bad exposure compensation setting, or perhaps a bad sensor and in need of services.

I was excited for a moment to see a G16 (I currently have a G11 too) but it doesn't have the flip back, which is something I love! I don't' use it a lot, but when I do it's really worth it!

Update: I took it in to a local repair shop and it took the owner less then a minute to figure out the problem. The interior shutter is broken, $150 to fix. Tempted to upgrade to a new G15/16, not sure it's worth it to spend $150 on a 6 year old camera that only cost about $500 to begin with. He said if I decide to get a new one he'll give me $30 to use my old one for parts.

Before you take that deal, be sure to contact Canon about their loyalty program. That broken camera could be worth more than $30 on a trade-in.

with a 6 year old camera I'd be afraid of spending $150 on it now, then something else breaking soon after...

Looks like they got rid of the articulated screen when they revved to the G15, seems like a weird feature to take out.

I think I read that it's slimmer without the articulated screen, I think I'd prefer the extra bulk with the screen, though.

I'll check out the loyalty program, do I email canon or something? Definitely planning on staying with canon.

Just found info on the loyalty program, looks like it's 20% off refurbished cameras with trade in.
