i was wondering if anyone ever had occasion to need emergency repair to their own scooter, power chair, etc. while on vacation, and if so what company they called and how it went.

i'll take all the ecv rental company phone numbers from the FAQ with me--some of them are full service medical supply places, right?

It sometimes seems like I have to have something repaired every trip.

I always bring a list of Orlando dealers' phone numbers with me, for my wheelchair.

Despite owning a US powerchair (an Invacare), the dealer had to have parts shipped in from Germany on one occasion (I am from UK and all UK Invacares are made in Germany. Although they look identical, very few parts are interchangeable). (My back wheel suspension was chewed up by a damaged lift on a Disney Bus - so Disney paid for repair & rented me a replacement!)

On another trip, part of my seat frame snapped and the Boardwalk maintenance engineer made temporary splints to hold it together at no cost. (Thank you Disney)

On a third trip I got water into my electronics taking a wash. Had to rent a replacement for the rest of my trip. I had to be pushed all the way through MCO to the aircraft.

I also carry a Leatherman with me at all times (even into the parks) plus a set of allen keys to fit my chair.

I have had the electrics on an off-site rented ECV fail on me - A CM at Epcot got me going again.

I have had a slow puncture on a rented powerchair - the ECV rental shop at Animal Kingdom pumped me up again.

Buena Vista Scooter actually has a shop on WDW property, since they also handle the surreys at Boardwalk and the rental bicycles property-wide. With a real energency situation at any park just ask for a manager to assist.

Several years ago I was deep in the Studios and got a flat tire on my ECV. He arranged for a Disney ECV to be brought to me at no charge, and the person who brought it over put mine in freewheel and pushed it all the way to the front of the park. When I was ready to leave at the end of the day all I had to do was get the ECV out to my car. The tire would not hold air, but I was able to drive it while hoding it for stability to get it to my car. The next day I took it to the dealer.

Besides what Andrew and Cheshire Figment wrote, you are correct that some of the companies listed in the FAQs thread are full service companies and would be able to do repairs.
So between what Andrew and Cheshire Figment wrote and taking the phone numbers from the FAQs thread, you should be all set:thumbsup2

thank you everyone. :goodvibes

i'm hoping taking all the info/phone numbers will have the same effect as carrying an umbrella seems to have at warding off the rain!

I didn't want to say it, but was thinking the same.;)

MY ECV broke down at EPCOT during Food and Wine fest. DH pushed it up to the building where they rent ECV's at the park but no one could help.

We ended up calling Randy's Mobility and they came to our resort and repaired my ECV.

thanks for your post.

okay then, if we get into trouble we'll call randy's first. before i bought my own scooter, i'd once rented from them--they had the best rental rate at the time, so maybe they'll have the best repair rate, too.

thx.

I needed a part replaced on my ECV this Feb, also.
We like the folks at Randy's so much that we waited untilwe went to Tampa (from Chicago) and then drove over to Orlando so Randy's could do the repair.
