Renting Reservation Points

We might decide to cancel an upcoming Disney Cruise that we booked with DVC points, which would leave us with a lot of reservation points. I would be interested in renting most of them if we did this. Is there any real market for reservation points? I generally see rentals only of actual points that can be used at the DVC resorts. Does anyone have any experience renting reservation points?

The challenge with renting Reservation Points is that you really are competing with CRO since the point costs are higher than at DVC resorts and your points are somewhat distressed since they will expire at the end of your Use Year. I would plan to lower your expected return as compared to rentals at DVC resorts and see what you can do. You should make it clear that these points cannot be used at DVC - or you will spend LOTS of time getting requests for DVC resort reservations.

Thank you for your response. I had expected that the price would be considerably lower for the reservations points than for the regular DVC points. We're still pondering this. We booked the DCL cruise (EC Tortola) to sail with friends who now are cancelling. We are doing the DCL EC St. Maarten in 10 days, and without our friends we might want to do something a little different, like a super Carnival itinerary out of Miami. But it might not be worth the trouble, so we'll think about it. We would like to at least recover our maintenance fees for the points if we do try to sell them as reservations points. I'll try to come up with a creative "marketing campaign" if I can do this.

Way back when, a member posted reservation points for sale. We decided it might be nice to stay at the CR (long before BLT and the $95 fee). The member made the reservation, we added a few more cash nights using our AP rate and stayed a week. This member really discounted the points since they couldn't use them and were going to expire.

Highly discounted points may be the way to go for you.
